Other then that it seams OK mate, hope it's solid everywhere under side too.

Love how its rotted evenly on both sides. Certainly looks to be a good shell (without finding a 3k p*ss-take minter).

Good luck.

i want to go wide arch so not fussed with the front wings, doors i have new skins on order :), the underside is clean as a whistle, engine bay is good boot floor clean, the rest is surafce easy to fix :)

I have a 2.0l xe throttle bodied nova already, im going to reshell it with this 1, the great thing is i have learned so many tricks and things to do with my old shell this 1 should be everything i want in a road/track car :)

scott.parker
05-05-09, 09:14 PM
It's your call, you can go mad and do every seam/join, or just do the one's you think that matter like rear chassis, and maybe the turrets if your keeping the standard ones.

Scott

05-05-09, 09:32 PM
ive done the floor seam behind the seats, turrets, boot floor. then was going to do the main seam under the dash when i remove it.

Plus the plating kit of course :)

well had a very intresting day, ive been stripping everything off it and cleaning it up ready for welding, decided im going to do a custom wiring loom, so i have stripped the entire loom out as i use stand alone engine managment anyway.

a grey area for me is brakes, can anyone recomend a pedal box setup at all, or is their a typical corsa or can i use any corsa for the nova ?

AlanH
10-05-09, 09:11 AM
for seam sealer i use grey stripe (available from halfrauds etc.) i've just fitted the corsa master cyl. and splitter box to the standard nova setup, doesn't look hard to fit the whole pedal box as it comes off in one peice (i have one in the garage if you need pics) but i dont have the time, need it ready within a week or 2 and my m/c looked a bit past it. Dont know how much better, if at all, this setup is to the nova one but will be easier for me to make the new brake pipes up and i got it for free.

skidmarkz
11-05-09, 02:51 PM
cheers, got me some seam sealer and going to use tiger seal to fit new wings with.

Stripped the nova to a complate bar shell this weekend, cut out the old gear shift location removed all the metal and welded in a new plate.

Just popped to the scrappers and got a complete corsa brake and master cyl also a astra internal shifter for £50 so well happy with that.

As Burgo mentioned i looked at the corsa windscreen wiper setup so i think i will pop back and get this also as i want to cut my scuttle panel out, i think they look so much cleaner plus it will give me more air around my throttle bodies, and im unsure but i recon i will be able to remove the ITG filter without have to remove my strutbrace lol...

Time will tell :)

AlexW
11-05-09, 04:13 PM
Burgo problery told you that the corsa wiper setup needs extending slighty.

Looking good. Expected finish time?

skidmarkz
11-05-09, 04:18 PM
well, it's allready booked on a ferry to france as im taking it to the nurburgring in july, so i want it built and finished/tested before then :)

the only thing that will take some time is the final paint job, other than that i dont see july being an issue, im hoping to have the chassi plating kit welded in this weekend, do the Alt Mod, weld all the holes in the chassis floor, fit the new rear arches, get it all prepped in primer..

Then ill attack the wide arch kit, and custom loom :)

OK, i have been busy over the weekend and in my evenings when im home from work, i have to stop at 19:00 as the peeps next door have babies, i did try and explain my nova is my kinda baby but they wouldnt have it ha ha!

Well i managed to get the engine bay welded, done the passenger arch, plated the passenger headlight panel, made a small patch for hole i found in the inner wing underneath sealer!, cut out and welded in a plate for the new corsa MC.

I will post pics later of the progress, but the prep work now looks like its turning the corner!, spraying is next and if im honest im bricking it!

small update, pics will follow.

Fitted the corsa m/c servo today, i cut battery tray out and welded in some 2mm sheet, i read that their is somtime flex so i upgraded the thickness, once fitted i tried my hardest the make it flex and i couldnt so i think 2mm is strong enough :)

Made a new bracket for the clutch, fitted tested i was quiet pleased :)

Plated the old throttle cable holes, m/c and the plate that used to hold the old brake pedal in place.

i didnt cut the corsa pedal yet i will do this tomorrow, i will be topcoating the engine bay tomorrow too, quiet nervous about this so i hope it goes well.

Out of curiosity, what alternator are you running? A small standard one or one of those lightweight ones? Edit: SBD judging from the above post! lol

Well, i have managed to get the engine in, the leternator hole is perfect you lot did get me worried at first lol!.....is the rear gearbox mount always a complete a$$ to get the bolt in ?

welded in support plates for my new seat bars, got the drivers side in tested the seat OMG soooo much better!

Cut out the spare wheel well, welded in a new plate, seam sealed covered in underseal

Trail fitted the roll cage to mark the floor, never realise how much of an **** roll cages are to get into a nova on ya own lol!!!

i read in mikes thread that 3mm platge is used as a base, my god how hard is it to bend to fit the wierd shape of a nova floor!!!!

i will update pics later...

amongst this i went to a birds of prey center and got up close and personal with a few bald eagles, peregrin falcons and quiet a few others..

Sounds like you've been busy then :thumb: the rear gearbox mount is indeed a pain in the ****, think in the end I got a jack under it to lift it up into the right place, or you could try loosening the rubber mount first to get the bolt through, then doing it up to pull the mount up, if that makes sense!?

I'll try and pop up one night and have a nosey around.

Jonlem
03-06-09, 07:19 PM
Best tip I can give you for the rear mounts is elongate the hole in it slightly.

Some mount kits can cause fitment issues, some are perfect others aren't, type of rubber or solid mount can also make a difference.

As requested pics.. :) i have since started to weld in the plates, i just havent taken pics again, heh :)

Spare wheel plate, welded in

I cut the back 10mm longer than the spare wheel plate, folded the original panel over and spot welded onto the new boot floor,

i have solid engine mounts! nearly gave myself a hernia getting the rear mount bolt in lol :)

Best tip I can give you for the rear mounts is elongate the hole in it slightly.

Some mount kits can cause fitment issues, some are perfect others aren't, type of rubber or solid mount can also make a difference.

What do you need to know about spraying bumpers? pretty much the same as spraying in general, just use plastic primer instead.

you want to get some degresser to get the silicon off the bumpers then plasic primer then base coat an then ur clear coat. if you want them smooth use high build primer after the plasic primer. more work tho :thumb:

Still going for the Ring dead line?

i had it on the road for a test drive yesterday, it feel so strange being wider lol, but i didnt have any gauges or clocks or windscreen wiper lol!

But it runs the new internal shifter works spot on all 5 gears perfectly :)

Where to start..

Well the car is now fully built, i was at Elite Saturday getting the suspension setup by laser\computer system... the techy bit being:

Caster: 4°
Camber 2°
Toe: i always run paralell due to the distance i drive ie to the ring...

On the way home the fuel return pipe split and dumped 3/4 a tank of fuel over the tank and underside of the car, luckily i was close to Daves so popped round their and fixed the pipe. It did manage to remove 90% of the underseal so i have had to do that all again :(

Thanks dave for the Jacks and tools lend, your a star :)

i will post pics up when i snap a few, i stopped updating as i had to just get on with it and get it done before this friday as im taking it to the Ring :)

I'm looking into a few extra bits to add on but as it is im very happy with how it drives and handles, the fully rose jointed susspension really is worth every penny as the car feels so much tighter, i was expecting it to be very clunky on the road and to be honest the only noise i get is as before which is from the top mounts!

J

Well, as most of you have seen the ring was a success, i still have susspension problem though so i will work them out.

I went to Bedford Autodrome saturday 1st for a trackday managed around 40 laps in the morning then after lunch i did the siteing laps for the new track layout, first flying lap and the LHS hub sheared and broke all connecting parts!

Thankfully due to PNG i had a good friend who lived about 30 mins away from the track who dismantled his car and lent me all the parts i needed to get home safe! Thank you kindly sir :)

I guess after 2000 very tough miles somthing had to give im just happy it gave way here and not in Germany!

The car is now on Axle stands and i am in the process of getting propper hub carrier made up so try and stop this happeneing again!
