does anybody know of a z20let nova? reason i ask i was aproached by a pal today who asked me if i wud fit one into his nova if he supplied parts needed? told him id get back to him regarding it as ive not had anything at all to do with them engines, xe ,lets or v6 no problem but z20let new to me, was wondering if anybody on here knows of one done of being done? im more than keen to do the conversion but wonderd if ther is any stumbling blocks that need adressing for the task at hand. i assumed
these wud seem to be main problems that arise and jumped straight at me-
1. front mount- z20let mounts from the side
2. gearbox - hydraulic clutch on z20let
3. throttle cable- electronic controled fly bye wires on z20let
4. chip key imobiliser wiring on z20let
any help or advice gratefully appreciated on this matter, cheers. :thumb:

As your own project I'd say go for it, personally I wouldn't want someone coming back to me constantly with unexpected problems with an 'alien' conversion

z20let nova would be worth hassle id say, had many a z engine, infact stick the vxr engine in and then your talking

its only down to the wiring, and if a complete loom was fitted, then I can't see what the trouble is

For simplicity, I would install it on an F20 or F28 box, the power delivery is a lot smoother than a C20 so it wont torque surge like the C20, however I think you will need a lot of the donor car's wiring & BCM, clocks & key/transponder etc to make it run.

The Z20 engines arent as well made as the old XE's & LET's, so despite being newer & typically lower mileage, still suffer, dodgy loom issues, smokey turbo's, valve stem oil seals, leaky gaskets & are quite heavy due to the balancer shafts.

thanks for replies, craig are the clocks needed for use in the z20let conversion? as ive haerd they are but also heard they arent and seen a mk4 astra with vxr engine in using its original clocks, if they are do you know wot the purpose of the clocks is for? z20let all new to me but quite keen on finding out a bit info regarding them.

VXR Astra engine would be a great conversion, just run it on stand alone management with a cable driven throttlebody.

a guy i know is doing a z20let conversion.. its proper hell. mounts are all wrong (he is using the z20let gearbox) loads of wiring, its almost impossible to get any info as it hasnt been done before etc.

If you want to use the std management then yes, clocks would be needed I think. The ECU sends it info for gauges etc & the speed signal for the ABS, TC & roadspeed all come back from the clocks iirc. I mentioned the BCM, but it might not have one. I believe it would be so techy to do it. The ECU really needs to be told it's in the donor car to run really (meaning all the issues & parts mentioned).

When VXR/LEH engines are used, the std car's ECU & loom is retained, then it's just basically mapped to the spec of engine (intercooler, vxr turbo, fuel rail & injectors) by the likes of EDS/Thorney etc to stage 3 or 4.
