Right, I need to buy a new one.

Simple question, Gas or Coal? And reasons for/against pls.

Previously I've always had coal, but quite fancy the "turn on and cook" ability of gas. Although having to buy gas puts me off a little - expensive?

A lot of people will slate gas but IMO they have come on loads in recent years. The rents have a nice one ATM. Food tastes very nice, with the lava rock you can also get it to kick up a bit of flame and cook your food properly. They say that is not good for the lava rock itself though lol.

Obvioulsy it ignites first time every time.

Charcoal will always win though, but so much fcuk on as you are well aware.

GAS FTW, more time for beer.

Burgo FTW lol

Would say coal cos they produce the smell and the smoke that kind of adds to the feel of it but the smoke can get in your eyes and be annoying so i dont know which i would vote for tbh!

Real barbecue with charcoal and petrol and other manly things ftw, there's a gas barbecue in the kitchen if you need it, it's just called a hob instead lol

Old skool charcoal all the way IMO.

Anyone who struggles with it clearly can't cook in the great outdoors. Gas ones are good though from what I've seen.

Gas is allright but that lava rock is just a sponge for all the fat that drops off the grub, next time around it's still there and flames up again, turn it down to stop the flames and you get next to no heat coming out of it...I don't like them.

Gas is only really expensive if you have to keep paying deposits for bottles from different companies (we have 2 empty bottles that no-one will take back cause they're not theirs, I'm hoping to butcher one of them into a charcoal bbq or oven), an average sized bottle should last a whole british summer unless you do 12 hour parties.

Personally I prefer charcoal, though it is a tw@ trying to get another bag going halfway through cooking something.

COAL,the simple reason being that you may aswell go inside and cook on the stove if your going to buy a gas one!you can get a few beer's in why waiting for the coal to glow, then munch like fcuk, btw i love barbacue's and as soon as the sun shows its face the coal is in.also great to take to the beach, cooking your own munch why the majority are cueing up for prewarmed burgerslol :thumb:

Mm, charcoal will be the disposable bag type of coal thingys, instant lighter jobbies.

Charcoal BBQs do seem to be considerably cheaper too. Quite like the look of this (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3450389/c_1/1|category_root|Garden+and+DIY|12107492/c_2/2|cat_12107492|Barbecues|12107533/c_3/3|cat_12107533|Charcoal+BBQs|12107536.htm) one

The oil drum style ones are pretty good imo, plenty of cooking area and they allways burn the coal well. The one we took to pv a couple of years ago had those extra grilles that the coals sit on so that air can draw under them, they got white-hot and bent, not bad going considering the grilles were made of 10mm round bar! Needless to say, the silver paint on it didn't last!

Edit, 2 instant lighting bags with 5kg of normal lumpwood over the top works well on this type of bbq!

coal/charcoal all the way.

You can't beat the the taste of a sausage that has fallen through the racking and landed in the dust.

Bits on your sausage ftw.

I had a BBQ at west bay once. One burger fell on the beach, another was shat on by a seagull.

Gave both to the same guy lol

Both lol. Gas is cool, if like me and my friends, you eat in stages! Drink get pekish so start cooking. Drink some more and need to cook. With charcoal you have to wait for it to heat. BUT charcoal is a "proper" BBQ IMO.

If i was to go out and spend money, i would buy a gas one.

Whats the point of a gas BBQ may as well cook up in the oven in the kitchen and take it outside and eat, same thing. The whole thing with a BBQ is so we can slave over it making fire like cavemen 'me make fire ugh ugh ugh' lol
