removing a mk1 dash - does the steering wheel need to come off?

Yes steering wheel needs to come off unless you cut both dashboards

dont need a puller, Just leave the nut on slightly then pull on it while someone hammers the middle piece with a block of wood and a hammer! worked for me everytime, Just remeber to leave the nut on slightly otherwise your nose will not appreciate it much

for £14 i think get a puller and save smacking the shlt out of the column!

Or just take the whole column out, that's what I do, far handier............

Or just figure out your own way of removing the wheel, pulling hitting turning the wheel and repaeating the same at all angles of lock and eventually the wheel just pops off, its annoying and takes a while at times but its not that difficult you should need to drop out the column:eek:

Or just take the whole column out, that's what I do, far handier............

seconded 1 13mm bolt at the pedals and prise the white tabs out top and bottom near the horn contact and twist the indicator stalk holder and off in under 5mins.

undo the nut slightly, and just having a pulling fit at the wheel, i did it once with the hand brake off, the car ended up rolling into the road lol

you dont smack the **** out of it, one pulls the other whacks with mild force :) wont damage even if you smack the **** out of it, all that will be damaged is the wood if anything!
