View Full Version : small block or big block
i have a nova 1.4 sr. its just my first car. im hoping to put an engine conversion in the future. i have a 1.6 16v and a 2.0 red top sitting from 2 other novas we bought for braking.
do yous think i would be better to tune the 1.6 and use it instead of a 2.0?

Due to the fact that you are 18, check costs of insurance first. Then decide?
If you have to change the engine id stick with the smallblock, easyer and could be tuned to run standard xe power easy (CG's old one is a great example)
As its your first car, get used to the 1.4 first. During that time you could rebuild one of the engines (whichever is more insurance friendly, which is most likely going to be the 1.6) and then stick that in when insurance allows.
Maybe keep the 2.0 for a future upgrade? If not then selling it could give you the funds to buy the parts needed to fit and rebuild the smallblock.
If its power you're after, there's no replacement for displacement  Sure the smallblock could be tuned to 2.0 power, but then if you spent the same amount on the 2.0 you'd have more power.
