i also had a P reg calibra v6 with a good running engine ( chip key imobiliser )
so i removed the engine from that car and gave the shell to a freind for a stot car as he races cavaliers and calibras, heres the new lump c25xe

Alright Gaz thats my old nova! what happened to the xe?
hello pal, i got bored of the xe and had calibra v6 sat there so decided to change engine over, just personal preference but i prefer the v6s over xes as i feel ther much nicer to drive, smoother and torquier and sound great. ive built 4 nova v6s now this being my 4th but this one is just a 2.5 so its the baby of the bunch were the others have all been 3.0 omega x30xe lumps converted to front wheel drive with cav redtop auxileries to run them in novas.:thumb:

01-05-09, 04:55 PM
here is the car sat on my yard whilst i debated wether the v6 calibra engine or my let engine was going in, not long after i got car i fully repainted it, fitted new tailgate with no wiper or washer holes, made the stubby mirrors as shown, i drilled the front bumper and grill to aid cooling and made my own vented bonnet, for this i used the scuttle panel vents from a mk3 cavalier.

and also i welded up the grab handle holes and done away with that totaly
gaznovalet
01-05-09, 08:40 PM
these were a cavalier mk3 scuttle vent wich i removed and cut neatly in half to make my vents one for either side, they wer weldid in from the top and filled smooth to get them level then primed and painted all in an afternoon.

these however wernt as easy to make and took me a few hours here and there over a few nights but i was happy with them, the replacement glass is fixed and does not move but they still work. to make them i cut the original mirror down and cut a chunk out of the middle and plastic welded the 2 parts i had together then used bodge and filler to hide all joins, these wer painted grey to match bumpers.

Fair enough chap the v6 looks good in there! how do they handle with all that extra weight?
hi mate they handle fine alwas a lot of debate over this question but to me i think theyre fine as long as have right suspension set up ie coilovers and correct wheel size and tyre choice, a valva redtop iirc weighs around 150kg and the v6 weighs around 175kg so not a massive diffrence realy and if anything the bit extra weight aids traction, my last nova v6 was a 3.0 and only problems i had with that in over a year was outer passenger side cv joint gave up a few times and i was using fat shafts and bigger hubs, also smashed rear box mount bolts clean off and stripped threads in box so replaced both and had to replace ball joints before i sold it but not bad as didnt have an easy life and did few track days at croft. will add sum pics of my old 3.0 nova over wekend as going to see my mate possibly 2morow.:thumb:

Looking good Gaz :D have you any pictures of your previous builds then as I would like to see the variation you've had.
What suspension setup have you found best for the v6 lumps then? Also what spring poundage did you find was suitable with coilovers.
Looks good matey and glad you got going on here okay ;)

the c25xe wen fitted with redtop flywheel is around 10kg heavier than a redtop c20xe valver so ive got away with 300lb front springs idealy 350, honestly to drive the two there is no massive diffrence in handling.
ive messed on with novas for many years now even paid courtny over 5k to supply and fit me a c20let into my nova gte many years ago and had good look around wot was needed and done and went from there. as for v6s there is no fitting kits for a nova so its a custom made front mount and rear exuast manifold chop and weld to clear steering rack, and a bit to remove from front panel to allow front head and disptic to clear. then get a belt made to drive alternator due to it being smaller now there is no ps pump at front as i use the bolt holes here for the front mount, dont have any pics of previous bilds david mate as were lost on previous computers, there is a wide arch nova xe on webers on piston heads i built that and painted it bmw platinum silver for karl the lad who is now selling it. i will get you some pics of my old 3.0 v6 nova over the wekend as im going to my mate who owns it now probably tomorow and sure he is putting it up for sale soon.its a fast car running NOS aswell.

just managed to catch pageys today for my belt for the alternator, a much smaller belt is now needed for the nova as powwer steering pump from the v6 engine is removed to make way for a mount. here is the old belt compared to the new one, new belt is around half the size of original belt

and as promised a few pics of kevs nova my old v6 beasty wot i sprayed lamborgini diablo orange pearl, a 3 stage paint job realy suited the car along with the black bumpers and wheels to break it up, this nova has a 3.0 mv6 engine removed from an omega elite mv6, strippd down and built it up using c25xe cavalier auxileries to run it then i got a non chip key imobiliser early type PN chipped and NOS fitted it goes really well its an agressive car to drive and is also coming up for sale quite soon. . . . .

stunning looking car you have there. like the detail you've gone into. i was thinking about drilling holes in my rear bumper, wasnt thinking as many as that tho lol liking the idea of a scuttle being used for a vent, i might do something similar.
keep up the good work, will be a minter once its running!
i swear i recognise your car from somewhere. just cant think where

So, when are you making sets of these mirrors ?
gaznovalet
03-05-09, 05:27 PM
with this being second generation v6 engine from P reg calibra it had an immobilised ecu wich can be a pain in ar5e with the chip key and transponder so i wired it into the nova otherwise it wud never run unless i got earlier type ecu wich did not have imobiliser and these arent easy finds now so i just wired it in to the loom and kind of bypassed the original cars set up and it runs like a dream now. for people considering a v6 conversion there are 3 generations of v6s these are.
1st generation, ecu code PN- non imobilised 93-94 cars
2nd generation, ecu code HE- imobilised ecu and chip key transponder 95-96
3rd generation, ecu code KC- imobiliser + second air injection 97
ideally the non imobilised ecus are best as can save sum headache but the later ones can be made to work but you need the ecu, chipd key and transponder all from the same car for this to be possible, here is how mine looks all wired up and running just needs tidying and putting out of the way wot will be tomorows job.

took into consideration overheating problems with big engines in small bays, done work regarding trying to keep it cool, by means of cutting holes in grill, holes in bumper, and a vented bonnet to try keep under bonnet heat as low as possible. last thing i want is the old head gasket go pop after all that work.:)
got to agree you right as i have a v6 engine in yard and funnily enuf from my mates cavalier wich has. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . head gasket gone on rear head.

ever had a bad day????? yes well so did i yesterday wen i overtightend the sump bolt and cracked the sump on the newly fitted v6 lump, was fooking gutted to say the least heres a run down of the nightmare job i had
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu40/cossiegaz_2009/DSC00747.jpg
car jacked up and on axle stands and from underneath i cud see a major problem arising for me already. . . awkward as they are fitting v6 engines into novas it requires a fair bit welding to the rear manifold and downpipe as the rear manifold fauls the nova steering rack, the way i do them is cut rear manifold level clean off at the bend and then refit this to the rear head once engine is in as ther isnt enuf room to fit with manifold on rear. then i cut the downpipe near the bottom bend and get a peice of pipe to match up in between the cut manifold and downpipe wich clears steering rack and weld it all up on the car. i now needed the sump off and surprise surprise it wont come down past the weldid up exaust so all the hard work had to be cut off as ther was no way i cud get sump off with downpipe on
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu40/cossiegaz_2009/DSC00744.jpg
i dropped front manifold bolts and cut thruw rear one with grinder ( not a fan of grinders since had accident last year with one wich endid me up in hospital with plastic surgeon for 6 hours getting 48 stiches to my hands wrists and fingers- only one finger escaped the grinder and nearly lost one finger and thumb as almost severd the tendons ) ha, finally wen had exaust out of way cud get the old sump off, even undid rear manifold but it still wudnt come down far enuf as was hitting steering rack so only option was chop thruw it.
luckily enuf i had a spare v6 engine just sat in yard so up she went and sump was removed from that, i didnt have much time and endid up with oil evrywhere lol and had yard a mess, the lady wernt happy with me
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu40/cossiegaz_2009/DSC00750.jpg
finally got sumps swapped over and exaust weldid back up then ran out of time, got tomorow to fit my cold air feed and refil engine with oil as the missus going into hospital wednsday for an operation so got to be done before then, and now the car is complete or will be totaly finished tomorow due to my circumstances it will now be coming up for sale, will hopefully update tomorow of pics of the car all finished and cleaned and polished up. so anybody wanting a v6 nova plaeas get in touch.
tom reid
11-05-09, 07:54 PM
Exhaust looks like a tidy job, best i've seen so far, although it would be better if you could remove the downpipe without the use of a grinder, you don't have many fingers leftlol
gaznovalet
11-05-09, 09:14 PM
cheers tom i still have all me fingers luckily somehow just they now bare the scars of a battle with the grinder and them thin cutting discs sharp make a mess of the old skin lol. yeah ive done a few of these now and my old orange one was done with proper flanges so the whole downpipe can be removed but i had a 4 poster ramp to do that one and loads of time were this one was done start to finish on my drive with axle stands. just pleased all the hard work has paid off eventually.

fitted direct cold air feed with 76mm viper ducting to match straight upto the inlet, slight modification to lower part of bumper and front panel and made a home for the cold feed, as from past experience find it helps greatly on these and a quik afm mod to aid airflow more. car runs and drives great sounds well with the v6 growl, car will be up for sale over next few days wen i get time to take sum good pictures of the whole car.

Yeah I'm the new owner. It's in Scotland just now with me but I'm trying to peice together the history of it because I bought it with none frome my brother. Heres how it looks now and the spec list that I know of. These are pants pics taken at night.
So far it has:
2.5 v6 from a cavalier with 3.0 v6 cams
5 Stud conversion
v6 brakes all round on Greenstuff pads
Braided brake lines all round
Coilovers all round and front and rear strut braces
Full roll cage
Lightened
Wheels from a cavalier turbo I think lol
OMP Steeringwheel
Custom exhaust that isn't loud
Astra digital dash conversion
Battery re-located to the boot
Sunroof removed and replaced with carbon fibre panel

Olny thing i didn't like about Gaz's are all the holes in the bumpers and grill I agree, for the sake of about 300grams weight saving lol, it will look so much better without the holes.

I also agree. The back bumper has been changed to a standard one but it still has the holes in the bumper at the front.
