I have a 2.0 8v nova with cally 2.0 16v calipers

I got hold of a pair of brand new vented and grooved red dot discs

Now im looking what pads to go for maybe:

Green Stuff
Mintex
Red Stuff

Any others to look out for or any to watch out for?

Gm is best for a road car imo.

Agreed. I know of lads who use the GM ones for trackdays and rallying and they stand the heat.

I was going to ask the exacy same question... I can get EBC and a selection of Mintex pads through work very cheap... Are the yellow stuff pads good or too harsh for small amount of road use?

Ferodo
I had Ferodo fast road use pads, were absolutely sh1t3 until you gave them some proper stick for a bit, seemed they needed "warming" up. (were absolutely fantastic after that) but obviously horrible on every day use, tapped the back of my mates corsa once :P

Went for some motor factors QH pads, pretty good actually but the concensus is GM pads are tops lol

Would the standard pads work well with the discs then?

Yer altho dont expect pads to wear well (from what ive heard anyways) IMO there overkill for a road car.

plain non grooved/drilled discs and Mintex M1144 pads (they are a touch soft but hey)

cheap discs and good quality pads (and fresh brake fluid) = WIN

Avoid green stuff pads! cant comment on red or yellowstuff but i'd go for mintex everytime. :thumb:

I've got maxtorq pads in the manta, and they're soft but boy do they stop well...

Will have a look at work once i get an account if they stock 1144 pads, had them in my old nova gte.

I dont understand why green stuff should be avoided??????????

because for some reason on cars that weigh less than 1500Kg green stuff pads crumble and dont work at all well. I had greens on the omega and funk me it stopped well, conversely I had greens on the VX and it barely tried to stop.

iirc Lee had a set of greens crumble away with minimal use.

yellows are reported to be good.
M1144 and 1155's are ace
carbon loraines are ace
pagids (well ok mintex rebranded) are ace.

as soon as i can get an account, I'll see what i can get :)

looking for a set for the golf, so maybe green stuff for that, and stay simple on the nova.

the way mintex work is that for about 90% of the supplied range, you can get ANY compound onto a pad by simply suffixing the part number with the compound number :D its a fantastic way to do things really.

Red dot don't supply brakes anymore... So it's whatever Halfrauds have left over lol... I used to get them to cnc nova int he discs for me. Handy knowing people lol

I ordered some green stuff pads for the nova, gonna see how they go. Did order some power grooved discs?!? but they're out of stock. They fooked up my order and put it through at retail price so gotta get my account changed tomorrow... :) Going for standard discs now.

Are there several types of ate 16v pads? the system listed a few :(

Anyone got pics?

Thats what im using on my 2.0 8v with ebc grooved discs and tbh they are pretty crap. My old 1.6 8v ran plain mintex discs and pads (£40 new from ebay) and they were honestly twice as sharp. Thats with just the std 1.2 servo/ master cylinder. If I hadnt worn a seatbelt I would have definitely gone through the windscreen lol
