View Full Version : My Orange Nova

Stanley
28-04-09, 12:03 PM
My first ever 'project' on here!

I dont plan to build a daft track car, nor a show stopping clinically clean Nova, just a nice sound on-roader.

Its a 1.2 with an E16SE fitted.

However, the engine has seen better days. The oil light came on and started tapping from the top end (not the dreaded death knock) and then promptly the cam seized. It has apparently been rebuilt but i am none the wiser as to what that exactly means........ The block, head and inlet have all been painted, so it certainly looks the part and has had some time spent on it....

It has some spax springs and dampers also.

Full GSi interior, with central locking and electric windows.

These are the only pics i have so far as im off work with Gout in my foot:wtf:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e188/stan_the_man08/nova3.jpg

The plans so far are:

Source new engine....
Tidy up interior - remove all orange dash plastics and either re-paint or replace, standard rear shelf and sort overspray on door rubbers etc.
New side reps
Change exhaust for something a tad more sensible
Repaint bumpers, skirts and door handles black.
Astra MK4 front splitter.
Lower more

Il update as and when i see fit:)

Thanks for looking!

Update:

Got a new engine. Had been sat for a long while so fired new timing belt, oil and coolant into it. Also swapped everything from my engine onto it (stripped new engine down to head and block). Was going to change plugs, but they were looking very new so kept them in!

Made a good start at getting it in yesterday although was rained off temporarily. Got old engine/box out, swapped good bits over, had a good poke about underneath and it all seems pretty solid! Splashguards have seen better days but that will get soreted in the fullness of time! Then bolted new engine to gearbox, and fired it in!

I lost the head with the wiring side of things and sacked it off for the day, but its getting close to running!

Will update when i get it going/torch it.

UPDATE:

Finally the Nova is alive!

After a bit of pissfarting about with a dodgy distributer, fuel lines the wrong way round, alternator issues, and whacking some tax on it, she runs!

The engine that is in now had been sat for ten years without so much as a turn of a key! But once i got a spark and fuel, it went on the first go! A new timing belt and fluids were used just to keep it safe-ish!

Heres a couple pics of it near my house - Still needs a good clean!

(excuse the side repeaters, ive fixed them straight since taking these pics!)

UPDATE:

The other day i fitted a front GSi ARB which has tightened the front up a fair bit!

I also ordered a full set of front bushes (minus the ARB bushes..) from RallyDesign after some helpful advice on here:thumb: Good quality stuff and VERY cheap too!

Recieved them today, so using an old set of tie bars and lower arms, i built them up!

Also gave the arms a lick of paint. Adds 20bhp each side you know....:wtf:

Had a slight issue involving my vice not wanting to be part of the workbench anymore, but got there in the end!

Should hopefully get them fitted this week!

Also recieved my inlet manifold gasket which i hope to swap in the next couple days too, as i have an air leak causing a bad idle and stupid high pitched squeel!

Small update

Not been up to much with the Nova as ive just moved house and still finding my feet!

Managed to find a set of Speedlines for a good price so snapped them up.

Missing two centre caps but were still worth it. Very good condition!

Got a bit of work done on the Orange tank today.

Got the Speedlines off ready to get them sold in favour of some Compomotives and sat the car on axel stands, which helps work on it alot........

Anyhoo i fitted my polybushed bottom arms, tie bar mounts, and two brand new balljoints.

Also some 60mm rear springs and a new backbox.

Removed my laguna splitter (now for sale) as im going to be fitting an Astra MK4 one after i paint my bumpers black.

Pics..

that last pic just shows that those skirts need to be black. get them sprayed up, car will look so much better. i'd even do the bumpers aswell. that with the comps sprayed white will look really clean and nice!

keep up the good work.
