How many gee gees have people seen from different size novas?

1.0
1.2
1.3sr/sri
14.sr/sri
GTE
GSI

Is a 1.4Sr Quicker than a 1.4sri with a CAT??

A 1.2 carbed has 10bhp than the 1.2i!

in standard form

1.4 sr 72bhp

1.4 sri 82bhp

Yea it may lose 10 bhp but the plp ive spoke to who have driven both cars say the 1.2i is quicker and faster off the mark

nah m8, i used to own a 1.2 carbed nova and it would beat my mates 1.2i anyday of the week, bottom end and top-end.
the injecyion 1.2's are only single point injection, whereas the sri is multipoint injection, hence why the sri will beat a 14 sr carbed.

ive always been told the singlepoint injection engines have been a bit sluggish...........

Will

they are 45bhp wot do u expect i think a 1.0 carb is 40-45bhp itself! lol

LOL yeah aragorn was just talkin to me about that!!!!!!

he reckons that corsa 16v one litre would pull away from a 1.2i nova

so the 1.4 SRI is quicker than the SR but still not sure about the 1.2.

 guaranteed:
if all standard
14sr (carb) slower than 14 sri (MPI)
12 (carb) faster than 12 i (spi).

mikeoxford

so the 1.4 SRI is quicker than the SR but still not sure about the 1.2.

i can see whats confusing you.........

the 1.4 SRi (injection) IS quicker than the 1.4 SR (carb)
the 1.2i (injection is NOT quicker) than a 1.2 (carb)

the reason for this is the injection system used.

the 1.4 have MULTIPOINT injection - where i think there is an injector for eash piston

wheres the 1.2 is a SINGLEPOINT injection, having one injector in the centre of a THROTTLE BODY .

Aragorn

nearly right there mike

there is also a 1400 SPi engine putting out 60bhp

so u'd prolly find the 1400SPi would just about beat a 1200carb

and its one injector in the middle of a throttle body not a carb :p

carb? i put throttle body

was the 1400 spi engine fitted in novas??????

Will

yip, mostly 5 doors, but i think there were some 3 doors fitted with 1.4spi as well. 60 bhp, how poor

yes all 1400 apart from carb / sri were the 60bhp spi unit

hey will - you fitted that weber yet ??

It's only 3bhp but it pisses me off, 1.4SR's had 75bhp!!!

Check Haynes - Top of Page 231!!!

mikeoxford
24-01-03, 02:16 PM
howdya know they had 75bhp?

Chris LR

I Treat haynes like a Bible, what they say is fact, and they say 75bhp

rgv_stu
24-01-03, 03:04 PM
well i gotta be honest the haynes i have is crap - and im sure it says the nv lump is 72bhp

do i care - er NO

why - because its only a rough guide - no 2 cars are the same.

Will

The main reason for the change from 1.2 carb to SPi was for emission regulations and cats, brought in 1992. I would agree that a 1.2 SPi is not faster than a 1.2 carb - I guess thats why Vauxhall never injected the 1.0 litre Nova engine.

The 1.2 carb power output was BHP 52 (or 38kW), torque 86Nm

The 1.2 SPi power output was BHP 45 (or 33kW), torque 88Nm

I have a 1.4SPi 3 door hatch, its power output is BHP 60 (or 44kW), torque 103Nm which has a few BHP more than a 1.2 carb but quite a lot more torque.

The 1.4 carb SR - BHP 72 (or 53kW), torque not much up on mine at 108Nm.

I think the torque has quite a part to play. Recently I drove an MG ZR (AKA Rover 25), it had a 1.4 engine with 103 BHP and was expecting great things of it but was disappointed. Thought it would be much faster than my 1.4 Nova with 43 more BHP - even allowing for a bit extra weight. When I checked the torque figure I ealised that it is only 123Nm - nothing like as big as the BHP jump.

Have never driven a 1.2 SPi so don't know what its like but am always surprised (as are others sometimes) at which the speed of my 1.4 goes.

thats one of the advantages of the throttle body injection - more torque than carbs by design

perhaps thats why my wee lump of shite feels soo nippy with its 45bhp

didnt know it had 88lbft of torque - its slow at the top end - where the bhp comes in the most - but low down its reasonably nippy and that'll be why :D

my 1.6 gsi has 126 bhp :D

running k&n , head skimmed and polished ,4 in 1 manifold and system magnex backbox ,uprated coil and leads and eco tec vaule

is it possible to change a single point to a multi point?

i think the 1.2c has 60bhp, were as the 1.2i has 55 bhp, as someone said, because its a single point, the carbed would burn past the 1.2i!

Well as my car is sat broken with 0 bhp, I'll let it rest this time!
