had enough of my redtop as its problem after problem, 2 oil pumps, a sump, driveshafts, more oil and water pissing out etc.........

had 2 engines since xmas and dont want another alltho my current 1 is mechanically sound just leaks and im paranoid when i hear a strange noise lol.

will sort these few problems out but want to go back to a 1.6 8v after pv,

not sure on 1.6 turbo or 1.6 on 45's.

dont want to spend loads but i dont really have a budget.

any ideas? and the does and donts?

what power? and reliability?

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: thanks, dave.

depends on the power you want ,refering back to a 1.6 from a 2.0ltr is going to be a step down obviously and its not going to be cheap to get the power from a 1.6 up to 2.0ltr power so what id suggest is to buy the parts needed for the 2.0ltr and lose a couple of pound out of the lead foot of your's;)lol

cheapist would be twin 45's.

1.6 will be just as old as xe so whos to say you wont have a number of problems with that, if you desperate to change think id try the 1.6 16v corsa engine alot easier to get a low milage on and great scope for tuning in the future

What i was about to say! 1600 16v or a 1800 smallblock 16v.

Redtops are leaky engines, buying another engine will be no different. Plenty of people use redtops no problems, sounds like it just needs a bit of love

just fed up of throwing money at the redtop and getting nowhere.

i have oil dripping from the back of the icv, i have an oil catch tank so its not getting into the inlet manifold.

got chris astley sump gasket and baffle plate on there too and its still leaks.

as said there all old and tired, just keep plugging away.

lol at the corsa 1600 16v suggestion, if he is fed of fixing xe's he seriously does not want to go 1600 16v!

save your money and rebuild the redtop.

Rebuild the redtop propperly with non ebay parts, loose all your pikey mates out the garage wheny our doing it and stop rushing.... my XE has done 5 trackdays, ring and back and still dont leak...

love, attention to detail and making things super clean before you rebuild job done :)

now if i could do bodywork as easy as building engines i wouldnt need a new shell lol

There no worse than a 2.0.... So what there eco but thats a another thread.
Adams did countless trackdays plus usual daily driving without fault.

Mines just been a pain as i didnt get all the bits to start with, and its a new engine conversion. Same as any.

You sold your your old 1.6 dave? If not i'd stick that back in then maybe later on go for twin carbs etc..

Or if its reliablity you want do what I did and go for a 2.0 8v :thumb: My mates andys 2.0 8v is nearly on 270,000 miles on the original engine and runs just as well as mine. :)

XE's are the new smallblock. 6 pots are where its at.

I hearby dub anything up to a 1.6 a microblock, which probably directly relates to the size of your wanger.

Joking aside, strip it down and completely reseal it with genuine gaskets and seals in a clean environment, and torque all the bolts up to the correct setting. Shouldnt have a problem then.

my engine got rebuilt about a year ago, i bought it from a friend who had it done by a company.

ill do another sump gasket and replace the wather hose on the back of the water pump.

but i can guarantee its will still piss out!! lol
