wonder if you could help:thumb:

Was going to fit a brand new cambelt/waterpump to my sr today, and i have followed the haynes manual, where it says put it into gear, and get someone to stand on the brakes,so that you can get the bottom pully off,did this, and the engine still turns over even when it's in gear and someone is on the brakes:confused:

why could this be,i need to get this bottom pulley offlol

Is this the best way, without losing the timing:confused:

some people like to wedge a spanner up against it and turn it over or jam something in somewhere so the engine doesnt spin, flywheel maybe. or just use a breaker bar, if you dont have one then use a spanner and stick a pole over it for more leaverage, or air gun with 17m socket as above!

undoing it with an airgun won't alter the timing.

And if it does its easy..... Like burgo said, get one lined up and then the other. I doubt your get it undone without disturbing the cambelt.

remove the three bolts holding the inner cover on the bottom of the gear box
so you can see the inside face of the fly wheel
place a flat blade screw driver in the teeth of the starter ring/fly wheel
turn the engine on the crank bolt with a breaker bar untill the screw driver wedges up against the block and then crack the nut off :thumb:

done it loades of times

well, if someone is on the brakes & the engine is in first gear, and you can still turn the engine over by spanner, then a new clutch is needed.

ps. turning the crank by hand or the cam without the belt & pulleys timed up on a 13sb will not do any damage to the innards at all, so be rough then re-time it afterwards.

Takeing the bottom bellhouseing plate off is the best idea. The timeimg marks are all on the belt covers. Or when you have all the bolts slack get the old tipex out and put a few marks on works every time. :thumb:
