HELP! Tapping noise coming from engine ( nova sr)

Hi everyone, two days ago my nova sr started to make a loud clicking/ tapping noise that sounds as if its coming from the distribitor cap? its running really rich all of a sudden and drives as rough as a dog! :roll: any help with this would be greatly appreciated, cheers rob

you pulled the distributor apart? have a look inside might be something loose, could do with replacing the parts to

Sounds like it could be the advance vacuum part that is dome shaped on the distributor. They tend to wear after time. It could need replacing but it's a fiddly job. Usually easier to get hold of another distributor.

mine started clicking as a spring had fallen out of the advance mech inside. i removed the lob it was attached to and all good :)

you got a haynes? comes in handy for lookign at blow up diagrams of the htings your taking apart and advice on how to do it.

after checking again the noise is actually coming from the head, under the oil cap?! any ideas guys?

the hydraulic tappets?? the camshaft??? the fuel pump??

more than liokely the cam lobes worn, tends to happen to the lobes
for cyl no4

i know this sounds daft but have you checked the oil level im not saying anything bad but just to check things that can lead to rattly tappets

check distributor cap and rotor arm - often when rotor arm starts wearing and burning out it shorts out and makes a loud tapping type noise

how loud,my mate bought a 1.4sr 5 years ago a week later took it out when it was cold,without a license so didint really have a clue how to drive,ragged it and snapped a rocker arm,it needed re building(engine),but that was really loud when it went
