That's as good as I normally get untill the small hours of the morning, though our phone line from the exchange to the house is around 3km long!

I use this one (flash based)

Come up with results:
1.57mb/s down
.22 mb/s up
on my in laws sky boradband

4.21 mb/s down
.96 mb/s up
on my O2 wireless @ 24% signal strength

did the same test thru my PS3 couple days ago & it was reading 8+mb/s down and 3.5 (approx) up mind you its connected via a lan cable

broadband speed varies depending on what your doing, how close you are to the exchange & how many people are using the same broadband line as you.

do it 3 times in a row and you will probs come up with 3 different results

no not on fo already, just saying that the fo one doesnt really matter the distance from the exchange, however the old copper one it does, longer the wire the more resistance there is, slowing it down

i prefer speedtest.net give it a go you can look at all differant countries speeds ect its pretty interesting in a very nerdy way!

24% connection strength? That would be your wireless I assume - makes no shakes on your net connection.

Which one did you use jack?
BT speedtester, as unlike the speedtest.net one it shows you your IP profile.

The old how far you are from the exchange is bs.
No its not, attenuation and SNR are what dictate your speed, and they're dependent on line length (i.e. distance from exchange) and line quality.

and its virgin too!

Only in very few areas that have fibre.

BT are shat......... Had nothing but trouble with them, switched to sky!
First off it wouldnt connect wirelessley
Then, After having the hub re-setted 3 times by BT and guarentees from an annoying little prat from BT it still wouldnt work! We found out that it was running at 1mbps when we were told it would never go below 8, then we were told that it wont ever be more then 8 due to the distance from the exchange (we were mis-sold the contract in other words!)
After going thru 3 different hubs we changed contracts from BT to Sky, never dropped a connection and dispite going slow on the peak times its never been slow!
