View Full Version : Bike Lessons
Thinking of doing some bike lessons, has anybody recently passed their bike test or doing bike lessons?
I've never riden a motorbike in my life, not even stolen a crosser when i was younger lol.
Is it worth doing, of would most of you tell me not to bother

i loved bikes whilst riding them but i did eventually get more bored of the bike than i ever did a car they are a good toy too have during the summer to blow some steam off but apart from that i personaly enjoy a car better so i just stick with the crosser for feilds when i want to mess around on one
I'm still considering a bike, its just the cost of buying a decent one that puts me off (mind you, a decent car would also be expensive, but meh).
I was told the changes to the bike test (i.e. older people could do a CBT then direct access) that were due to come in last year had been put off?
to be honest, I would rather be tought properly than try and get threw it as easy as poss. Mrs rexy isnt wanting me to do it, as her mates fella went out for a ride and his mate died pretty recenlty.
Rexy + bike = death :(
for the cost of the lessons + test+ half decent bike + safety gear, you might as well get an S1 Elise and be able to piss bikers off in safety + carry mrs rexy in there
Yeah, I reckon you should stay away. Whenever I'm out on the Cat & Fiddle, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun to be on a bike but prefer the safety of a car(no one take the pi$$ out of Novas being bean cans etc, I think if I'd been in anything else when I had my smash, I'd have been a goner). We don't want anything happening to you!

the new rules for the test have been delayed and if you do a 1 to 1 lessons the instructer will not let you take the test unless they feel you are ready direct access is BS you do a certain amount of days and then a test if you fail you have to fork out more money
you could fail 1-1 but not as likly
i dont think bikes are at all dangerous i never came of once have been close to a smash a few times you just have to have your witts about you and other road users, ride to the conditions and dont be a cock

Do it! I am so glad i did mine. Driving cars is all good, but you can NOT beat twisting the throttle of a bike. Careful though, it is addictive.
Bike test should cost around £5-600 all in. Thats your CBT, training/lessons and test. And using their bikes.

I used to be a Motorbike Instructor, doing CBT's.. Get it done, there is nothing like riding a bike ... For sheer speed and excitement, you cannot be beaten. As for being dangerous, it will only go as fast as you want it. Saying that, if and when your riding, just remember everyone is trying to kill you and you'll be ok. lol.. I do miss teaching total retard's how to ride..lollol
rexy would fail at biking, you cant strip them lol
and GAZ dont seem to do bike dampers lmao

Drive like you're invisible and you'll be fine.:thumb:
I wanna do my test, waiting on the funds coming together first, to get everything at once. Lessons, test, bike, insurance. Can't wait!
Ahhhh ha ha ha ha, awesome replys.
Personally, no car will ever compare the sheer terror and excitment a modern litre sports bike delivers...
go for the bike matey, you wonder why you ever pissed about with cars....

Was told from a guy at work, 600cc on a bike, is like having a heavily tuned 6ltr in a car. Should suit your 'need for speed' down to a tee, rexy.:thumb:

Sounds like you've just had your first experience of a midlife crisis lol
Edit: answer to Rexys original question.
i think i might be going that way matey, hair line is receeding and im bored as hell of the car pmsl.
all at 26 Pfft, im just a bit of a speed freak if it isnt scaring the **** out of me its boring lol.
I was looking at doing my bike test this year, was going to do it same time as my mate but hes bought a supercharger for his civic instead..
Will do it eventually but want my car built first. Ive never ridden a bike, had my first go ever on a 50cc scooter saturday seemed like fun. Definatly somthing i have to do, the only off putting thing is anyone you mention motorbike to will say 'dont do it, you will crash and die'
I've only ever ridden bikes on Rolling Roads, and even then that was scary enough lol.
Rexy, be gay, get a 2 seater softtop... Trust me you will have tons of fun in an MX5->MGF->S1 Elise etc..... although I guess seeing you in leather might be rather fun lol
do it do it do it
i done it befor my car test and you are probably half way there already knowing the road etc. just get used to a clutch under your hand and your away, i would say do 1-1 as i think you have to have a bit of experiance for direct access.
and you can get fast bikes cheap cheap. if you willing to step back a year or two.
and everyone who says bike are dangerous. what if your car crashes, and burns and you stuck inside......
at least with a bike, 70% of the time you leave ya bike.

Do it mr rexton,
Bikes aren't dangerous but other road users are, ride evasively and remember what the instructors tell you as one day it will most definitly save your life!
You can't beat opening a bike up but it's really not for the faint hearted, going fast is easy it's usually stopping that can be quite tricky!
I did DAS (direct access) when I was 21,600 pound and four days and I had my licence, the examiners are very fair compared to driving instructors as long as you're not a complete tool you'll be fine!
As far as the price of bikes go,I bought a uk spec nc30 vfr 400 with 15 thou on for £1500,it's a good bike to start on!you can easily get a decent 600 for 2k or under!
Ive been toying with this idea lately, done my theory test last year (got 100% too lol )
But not actually got the courage to book up the test, only bikes ive ever riden were borrowed ones when we were 13/14 and i have never got on one and not fallen off but that was me @ 13 climbing on and just throwing the throttle back, sure if i was taught properly i would be fine.
But on the other hand im contracting and if i get injured i dont get paid so thats all thats scaring me at the moment about it, really cant afford even a day off this year.
Driving past the Ducati shop everyday dosent help though!

I'm looking to take my CBT if I get a job I'm going for. Not having to pay for all day car parking + being able to nip through traffic makes sense IMO.
Bikes arent fior everyone & it halps if you have good road craft before heading out on a bike. Most accidents (excluding reckless speeding) are caused by poor judgement, other motorists or simply not being aware of the risks. Just like a bicycle, a motorcycle is at risk from vehicles exiting junctions etc. You have to be assertive when on 2 wheels, if you arent you will get knocked off.
[edit] Retro classic Yamaha RD125 FTW
Do it, I passed mine 9 years ago. It's fairly tricky but if you have reasonable balance and control you should be ok, just watch out for the U-turn, not allowed to put your foot down.
I've had a couple of superbikes now, they are awesome and totally addictive.

Stop being gay, do your bike test and you'll never look back.
I took mine, only one minor I might add, last year ;) .

.... to be mashed up by whatever is around you. I do agree with the cars being safer than bikes by a long shot - crash a car, you have a metal cage round you for protection. Crash a bike, you're on your own.
Having said that, this thread is still making me want a bike. lol

is it protection or imprisonment?
that bike WTFFFF, where is the fuel tank??
is it protection or imprisonment?
I'll remind you of how "free" you are when you're sailing through the air, missing an arm and half a leg, and about to get your head crushed by my tire :)
