Hiya guys & gals,

I got myself an F10/5 Box waiting to go into my car however I have decided i want to put an F13 in there insted..... iirc the mounts and what-have-you are the same as the F10 but just wanted to ask a couple questions

!. Will an F10 clutch work ok with an F13 (i have a new F10 clutch)
if it does 2. are the drive shafts the same? (will they fit?)

ta for those who can help me :D

Mounts Will Be The Same And The Drive Shafts Should Fit, As For The clutch ?????????????????????

Splines on the input shaft of the box are the same so your "F-10" clutch will fit.

agreed, its the other way round that causes trouble, the f13 flywheel & clutch are bigger

yes. but make sure you don't make the same mistake i did. do not fit the 4speed shifter box from the top of the f10/4 to the f13, or the 5th gear won't select.

unless it will be a close ratio F13 i think they both have the same ratio's ?
might aswel save a few bob and run the box youve allready aquired, unless your engines beasty and you need the stronger box.
me personally id stick the final drive from the 5 speed into your 4 speed, would give u a bit more acceleration thru each of the gears, and from what burgo said, probably only sacrifice around 5 mph top end.

well as i said i cba to put the final drive from F10/4 into F10/5, not really after a stronger box, however according to what i have read the final drive swap between 4 & 5 speed boxes will pretty much give you F13 ratios....... so im kinda cutting out the middle man here and rather then making an F10/13 hybrid, just wanna get myself an F13
The F10/5 has a sorter final but the same ratios on gears 1-4, so if i were to put an F10/4 final in there i would end up with the same ratios as before, just with an extra gear, which idealy is what im after but im back to the not being bothered about taking apart 2 gearboxes to make something that i can get my hands on quite easily!

not only that but ill then end up with a close ratio 4-speed... who would want one of those?

i do lol

heres a diagram with ratios and final drives, the f10 5 speed has the same ratios and final drive as an f13, unless its a close ratio box, theres no difference bar being a stronger box.

huh the one i read was a bit different (& english lmao) so i pray i have the 3.94 one and that its not from another C12NZ which is 4.18 final!
Does anyone know how to tell them apart? Are the finals printed on the case or something?

Yes, here comes that pic again!

end of the gear casing, serial number followed by whats inside it, W=wide ratio, C= close ratio, and the numbers after that are the final drive.

V? It'll be W with half of it missing (therefore a wide ratio with 3.94:1 final drive), Honestly some of vauxhall's stamping is ridiculously poor, especialy engine numbers.

I had a look to see exactly what's in the vectra the other day, F18 C3.57, the quality of the stamping is much better than I've seen on gearboxes previously, made up of nice deep dots.

It must be a W then.
that makes sence tbh as its the wider ratio of the 2
