Im interested in maybe purchasing this redtop nova. Im not too far away from it so can easily collect. I dont know if the owner is a member here but hes not sure if it has been seam welded, and he is unsure what driveshafts are in it. He also doesnt know if it has a strengthening kit fitted.

Apologies for this last question as im guessing it has been asked over a million times but what and where are the main things to look for when purchasing an already redtoppped nova? Should there be any history or specific ways of conversion to know about and to go for or steet clear of?

I have had a look around it and its not MINT but is in very good condition for its age. Is anybody able to direct me towards how much to offer the bloke, or does anybody personally know the car and are maybe able to answer these questions? (Bit of a longshot but nevermind)

Any comments are much appreciated. Matt

Don't know it myself but you will be able to see if its had a strengthening kit fitted - you will see the plates welded around the engine bay... did you take any photos? Probably be able to tell if its been seam welded too if you've got photos.

Looks very nice and if its really good condition I think the asking price isn't far wrong. Maybe barter him down to £1,200.

Thanks for the reply. unfortunately the battery was dead on my camera, so couldnt get any photos:confused: Im not sure what i can get him down to but he said someone offered him £1100 and he said no. Is there any easy way to tell if it has been seam welded?

Will be visible welds along the seams, its a mk1 so it wouldnt of been seam sealed along the chassis legs etc from factory. If its covered in seam sealer on the chassis legs/ around the suspension turrets then it probably has been welded.

Have a look in projects to see how they are seam welded.

Sweet cheers mate, sorry about the questions but are there any main issues to look for with the engine or running wise?

will be fine then mate and to tell ya the tructh wouldnt worry about shafts either, the only problems i ever had were with tapered shafts sheering in the outer cvs, oh and i broke some outer cvs once but both me with a phase 3 let and a mate with a heavily tuned xe run gte shafts after the problems we had with tapered (motorspot shafts wernt realy about 8 years ago) and ive never had a problem take it on the strip regularly and have done the odd track day and never had a problem with them

If its got the complete plate kit fitted the main plate is this :

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Jatec/Bens%20Nova/P1000360.jpg

There is obviously a matching one on the drivers side along with plates on the tie bar bracket area of the crossmember which can be quite hard to see when a car is built up.

Check the crossmember all over for cracks or rot, they rot through the inside of the wheel arch on some and the pulling and pushing affect on the tie bars twists the crossmember off the car in the worst scenarios so just check for any cracks in the paintwork around those areas as they can involve a lot more than a quick crossmember swap to sort.

Hope thats some help, good luck with the purchase

that car looks very nice on the outside but on the inside god it looks horrible. one bucket seat is just cheap. and one standard seat yuk. those floor mats are just wrong. the steering wheels is terrible. the small washer bottle has been painted black and looks terrible.

other then that. i think 1300 is a good price if its been welded right under the bay.
