anyone have any info on this?

i was playing call of duty 5 last night, just finished a level and the thing crashes, the screen is stuck and it wont do anything...making dodgy noises....take the disc out and there is a mahoosive scratch in a perfect circle on the disc. not good as ive borrowed the game off my brother :tard:

resart it all and it was working for a bit, played about a half hour more and then the whole thing crashed, got 3 red rings around the power light

i would just take it back (as i only got it 4 months ago)......but i got it from zavvi who are now bust. any ideas?

just been on the phone to them - spoke to some spanish bint who was quite clearly reading off a sheet 'here at microsoft we check all our consoles before they go out, there is no problems with xbox's scratching discs'.........oh really? well google seems to say different! now i have to buy another cod 5 (but don't worry - you won't have to pay full price)....like that is a good thing! f*cking A-HOLES

its off to get fixed this week, why oh why did i not get a PS3

If i were you i would sent it back to mircosoft, and whatever you do don't do what they sed on the interent or youtube ie. wrap it in towels, or bubblewrap, because none of it works, thats just comon sence,

the red ring appears because the graphics card on the main board has got to hot and over heated, it was a bad design fault with the heat sinks, they werent big enuf

the made the heat thing that cools the graphics card smaller, because the dvd drive wouldnt fit. about 2/3 of xbox get the rrod or something? ive had it. and yeah, the wrap in towels etc... its all Bollocks and dont work. if something gets got, you dont wrap it in a towel. i phoned microsoft and they collected the xbox within 1 day, fixed it, i had it back in just under 2 weeks with an extended 3 year warrenty and a months xbox live :D

The towel trick does work :thumb: Not well, not safe, and tbh, a load of tosh!

Its the main GPU (Grapical processing Unit) That melts off the motherboard!

You can open the case, take the gpu chip off the board, then re-apply, heat transfer paste, then fire up the console, and the heat will resolder the chipback on, its not perfect, but if you want a temp fix, go for it :thumb:

the perfect circle on the disc, do you have yours stood up? i remember something like this with the PS2's, if they were stood up and running for long periods of time the laser would touch the disc and start chewing it up. that said, i've always had mine stood up and its never gone wrong... (touch wood)

Aye, don't stand it up.

Towel trick and bolt/washer repair kit also work but nothing lasts lol

Send to Microsoft and have them repair it. They suck TBH lol

i thought that the track the laser runs on was very loose, apparently you should have your Xbox on a table and not on the floor as any hard movements on the floor can bounce the laser into a disk!

or just buy a PS3, the wiser choice :)

Seeing as there are plenty of constructive comments on here by devout followers of the little white box of poo, may I be the first to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA lol lol lol lol

That is all

I'm an Xbox owner/fan but they do suck. I would maybe care if I had paid full price for all of mine. Still (when they work) they kick the **** off a PS3 IMO. WTF is that PlayStation home all about too? lol

Who cares, its free! How much are you paying to play online with your Bill Gates spawn? :) Years subscription is it? Thats a shame when the console probably wont last that long :) (yours has lasted more than a year i hear you cry with glee.... WELL DONE YOU! Only microsoft could sell you something thats badly made, and then have their customers actually think its great that their consol isn't in the 70% failiure rate bracket by lasting more than 12 months )

I agree the game selection for the xbox is better, but that just goes to show how many idiots out there bought them :) PS3 games will catch up soon, mark my words!

And yes, I AM going to post like this on every sodding 360 fail thread until all the idiots stop being brainwashed. If you stop buying them, they will put effort into making the bloody things properly.

ps3 home is something we can use when we want, where as your xbox lets you play (post pay) whenever it wants, until it finallly spits its PC dummy out and decides its not really a games console, its just a half rate pc that had to change media format after its launch just to keep with the times

personally i think mr gates should stick to trying to keep windows in order, if the next windows isn't better than XP sp2 then im going linux! (which might i add can be installed as a slave OS on ps3 :))

I think 360's are designed to fail. When mine fails I kick it and of it goes again. I have come to the conclusion that it's not heat related since mine has failed before it's even had chance to warm up.

The thing I like about the 360 is when it breaks I can fix it, but then again it's the only console that I have EVER owned that has broken. Also considering I have had every single mainstream console and handheld for the past 15 years or so. It's a bit of an uber fail.

I am not console loyal since I couldn't give a rodents rectum about them, it's the games that I like. Hence why I am currently playing Mad World on the Wii. Fecking awesome!

Agreed. Its not heat related, its Team MS thinking 'crikey, better rush this thing out before Sony finishes making theirs actually work properly' related.

Im not console loyal either, but I am VERY against giving a company money for a half assed product.

Me too, thats why I bought a broken one for £40 and fixed it:thumb: Mr Gates can whistle for any online subscription as well.

well i can't fault them for effort, i rang yesterday afternoon (sunday-was suprised they were even open) and it got collected at half 9 this morning, on route to germany as we speak :thumb:

and yes, the console was upright when it scratched the disc, i'll be laying it down when i get it back :wtf:

Just out of interest, what way do you stand your xbox? Although all the pictures show it as standing upright, apparently you are actually supposed to lay it down. I've had a couple of discs scratched and it hasn't happened since I turned it the other way!

Mine had done both in the past... no probs with either.
