Now, i know we probably have touched on this subject before (not each other for a change) now, are you religious? Partners religious?

Im meeting a girl soon, who is a bit god fearing, with ties to church of a sunday, as this got her through alsorts. Im sort of raising an eyebrow to it..

Discuss?

The mrs and I are not religious people, especally me; I think its a load of old tosh.

But we do both believe in mediumship and have been to spiritualist churches.

I think that you would have to make it very clear to her, if you didn't believe in that sort of stuff but would happily accept her for who and what she believed in.

Religion is a supurb tool for getting through life for some people, and for that its has to be respected.

Lets face it, it was invented to stop the human brain going nuts when it got to the point of recognising its own mortality.

I know when im drawing my terminal breaths I will be pooing myself because ill know when im gone i'm gone, whereas a god botherer will probably be quite relaxed about it.

Its difficult to ridicule it when you look at it that way.

Its people who waste their lives dedicated to the worship of his hairyness who I feel sorry for the most. Get a life, shag some females, eat some bacon, and stop blaming a make believe dude for your own shortcomings.

That is all :)

oh dear, sex before marriage?

Im not going to rant about religion, but im a big no no for it,

but as a couple of points, i think the correlation between countries where religious fanatics are usually from (not just fanatics, just very devout people ect) AND the level of education in those countries (lack of) is quite interesting, the fact of the matter is as we become more educated less people believe (cough, are conned, cough)

Its not for me in the slightest and all in all, including all the people who it helps, i think more bad has come from religion than good, i mean if you want to have a make believe friend, thats fine, if you want to go visit a specific building to tell this 'friend' how much you like/fear him, thats fine, but don't bloody go chopping peoples heads off and causing all sorts of hoo har if other people don't believe in him!

LMFAO!!!!! I don't know why that amused me so much but it did lol.

I go to church the very odd time with my family if theres a special event or something but thats it. I suppose if I'm honest with myself I don't believe or anything. I drink sometimes, I work at my car on sundays, I swear etc.

HOWEVER - Regarding any strong christians that I know, I let them get on with it. I don't mock or accuse them of false believing, why? Because I don't know. Just because you don't believe, doesn't make you correct.

My uncle used to be a Vaux nut who got loaded every weekend with his friends, polish his cav every sunday after he threw up green stuff, let out the odd swear.....now, he wouldn't dream of doing any of that, as he has been 'saved' - thats his choice.

The only way I get annoyed is when a strong christian tells you that you shouldn't be doing this/doing that. It works both ways.

lol

My cousin who is very much like me married a muslim, but she is very westernised, and super cool. Before they married her rents asked him to convert, they both said piss off.

My mate married a Cath, and altho doesnt do the lingo he sometimes attends the masses, he quite enjoys them lol

My sis before she passed had sightings of a few people that were close to the family, she would never make stuff up like that. Since then, like Stu we've been to mediums and im very much into that, theres too much there just to be guess work.

But if there was a greater good.. other than me lol, families like ours wouldnt of had there world torn apart the way that it was.

At the end of it.... what i believe in is myself and the others that i hold close, family and good friends which i would trust myself with. Thats reality, thats in front of me from which anyone (with the same view as me) can draw strength from.

my missus is quite religious, & the kids enjoy going to church. I am not.

I take the kids to church if the missus is working (she is a nurse) & the vicar & his helpers, and the other regular churchgoers know I am not a true believer, but they accept me & don't try to ram it down my throat. that is why the church of england is not growing in numbers, they teach acceptance & tolerance.. there are other christian faiths that claim it is unacceptable not to belong to them, there are other faiths that claim that if you are not in them, you are fair game....

Religion is there to fill the hole in your life, nothing more, nothing less.... If someone wants to be in a spiritualist church, so be it.

the only thing I can be certain of is that holes in the road are not the work of some divine force, but incompetent council workmanship.

i dont believe in anything.
no religions nothing. i think they are all aload of tosh.

imo they are excuses. islam is an excuse.

and that mdiumship, thats a load of tosh as well. isnt it weird how you can have a room full of people and they call out one name and just by chance one person knows somneone dead called that name... and then they just go by chance. fair enough somethings are mental which they remember. but body language can give away alot.

saying all that i dated a muslim/asian.

and if her dad found out, i would be dead.....

I guess because some of my family are religious and that i used to attend church when i was younger than i still have a part of me that sort of does believe but i do not attend church anymore and havent done for a good 13 years. same here mate, my nan appeared to me. cant get more proof than that.

Trouble is though that seeing something is not proof. There are people in the world who see weird stuff all day because their brain isn't wired correctly. 80% of the human brain is not understood, and we dont use much more of it for that matter. It can do some very weird stuff.

I saw what I still believe to this day was someone walk through a brick wall when I was out on my bike as a kid. Saw it clear as day. Crapped my pants. Two days later I had a very nasty fever. Im pretty certain it wasnt a ghost though, i rekon it was my brain being gay.

And Mr BMW, a man saying a name in a room in hope of someone there knowing someone by that name who is dead is a very crap medium. There are much more talented people out there who use psychological illusion, perceptual manipulation and persuasive technique to make you firmly believe they can talk to the dead. Derren Brown is a good example.

People should definately be able to believe what they want to believe. What I believe is above :)

And I cant remember for the life of me how I was using holes in the road to argue with Dar about something either lol

I am one big contradiction! I am a spiritualist and used to go to a spiritualist church with my mum BUT I am doing a psychology and sociology degree which seeks to discredit all religion lol

If anyone wants to read an interesting book then read The God Delusion. Makes some very good points about religion and how it cant be real but I still believe in another entity but dont know what it is. I believe in the after life and reincarnation.

Although i dont actually like religion. Someone else said and I agree that it causes more trouble than good. Too much ****ty stuff has happened in this world 'in the name of god'. War, death, child sexual abuse etc

But like everyone else I say believe what you want, I just dont wanna hear it!

Ghosts are a completely different ballgame to spiritualism and mediums (despite what those involved with both will tell you), and are quite easily explained by science. I believe in ghosts, but in a logical sense.

I would literally ****e myself if i seen that!

^ this I find interesting, as a few religious people have made the same argument - as in "you're telling me the big bang just happened?! Thats crazy". So an entity with physical form of a man (as man was supposedly created in Gods form) just created the universe? In seven days? And thats supposed to make more sense? Hm.

I've had first hand experience of this anyway. My ex, Kat, was a devout Christian, to the point that she "pitied" the fact I was going to hell because I didn't believe in God. She was stunningly hot and damned good in bed though lol

Evolution is not, in fact, 'proven'. It has been greatly discredited lately.

And I think it was the Greeks that invented orgies along with incest

Evolution is not, in fact, 'proven'.

its been proven more than 'walking on water' has, or turning one fish and a loaf of bread into a meal for 5,000 people - thtas good enough for me!

I still maintain the "walking on water" thing was heat distortion in the desert.

As for the water into wine... ribena? lol could have watered down some wine.

Remember even as little as 50 years ago, people were amazed by things they didn't understand. 2000 years ago, you could have farted and people would have praised you as a God of Wind and Thunder.

Kelmel, info/links on evolution being discredited?

**** me, if there is no proof on this planet of evolution I'll happily eat my own cock with my Sunday roast!

Only anti evolution evidence I have ever seen is some sort of micro organism that moves with a strange little thing which is like an impeller pump in it's body, has something like 52 moving parts and there's no rational explanation as to how this could have evolved.

The evidence for though, i'm pretty sure is much more freely available lol

http://hitchhikers.wikia.com/wiki/Babel_Fish

"God refuses to prove that (S)He exists because proof denies faith and without faith God is nothing.
Man then counters that the Babel fish is a dead giveaway because it could not have evolved by chance. It therefore proves God exists, but by God's own arguments God does not exists.
God realizes (S)He hadn't thought of that and promptly disappears in a puff of logic."

awesomeness... although to be fair, you could replace Babelfish with pretty much anything on the planet, aside from Napalm_27 and Gaskell

Isn't that Jamie Oliver for those sainsbury ads?
