View Full Version : todays shopping...
well, this mornin me and the missus, got up early, and had a nice drive over the m62 to liverpool docks, to look at a 1996 toyota celica ss2 auto coupe, with 51,000miles on it. having looked at the car and driven it a good 5 miles, we decided to buy it. anyway heres some pics of the new toy. all it needs is a cambelt and some rear pads, and for an auto it goes like stink!!!!

Other than the wheel size being a little shy it looks spot on.
[edit] Get a Uk shape front number plate too. It looks a bit 'modded' with the jap spec plate on the front.

You went to Liverpool to buy a car? Are you mad?
nope, he was a really good guy, he ran the car imports as a sideline to his other business, general importing. i did some research into the company before buying, and i got good feedback from all the people i spoke to. oh and liverpool isnt as bad as it once was. we stopped at a pub for lunch and it was lovely.
looks nice sloth. im not to keen on old cars in white. but looks alright.
shame its an auto lol

yea it is a shame its an auto but then i supose its not as thats what you need for your missis lol
indeed, i have to say tho, it really does go like stink, and has a "power" button, basically a higher rev limit in the gearbox ecu. its the 173bhp one aswell, and sounds great when the t-vis (toyota variable inlet system) opens up...... BWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!! seriously like bodies....

sounds like bodies, what dead ones?
Looks pretty good, a few of my mates are after one of these now.
Looks a tidy motor, i was tempted by a Celica GT uk car a few months back, think there about 165hp? And pretty cheap to buy....
ooo them wheels would fit my MR hehe
does it really roar at about 4k...mine does and thsts got the 173bhp celica lump

my dad had one of these, you sit very low in them and the rides quite nice, only option on a celica that shape though has got to be gt4!
yer, like i say, get to 4k ish and the manifold opens (google t-vis) and it howls... its addictive tbh. and yes they are dirt cheap. this was the best looking, most std, lowest mileage one on the bay and it cost 2k. but we traded her corsa b against it. and tbh that was goosed, so happy days.
bubba its the 3s-ge engine, so yer 173 bhp.
yup thats the one, no idea about jap engine codes. although my shell should have the 3s-GTE engine. turbo shell with n/a engine.
shells the same, its just the lump mate. ive seen n/a 3s-ge engine's converted into 3s-gte's...
nah it was a turbo import, got the raised engine cover vents and had twin cam turbo down the sides. tubby clocks n wat not, then the engine went bang and he couldnt afford to replace it so he got the n/a
ahh yer i see now. still not bad for a cheap jap car...
i actually like the way jap cars are quite snug and cluttered inside. not like the nova where it feels like it might fall apart at any time
mmm, its a cosy cosseted feelin. only issue with the leeka is the seat doesnt go back far nuff for me really. but i can drive it. ill take pics next weekend, after we get it. as the ones above really dont do it justice...
^ how long are your legs?! I can push my seat back all the way and when sitting properly I can barely push the pedals. I'm 5'11 with long legs lol
G6 celica is the best celica IMO (:D), only problem is it looks crap on anything smaller than 17" wheels as the arches are HUGE to accomodate larger wheels for rallying. Mine has 18s and they still look a little lost!
plates gettin done asap, im after a uk tail pod too...
Nope, keep the JDM tails. UK ones look gash.

177 or 173, same engine as the SSII

Man speak truth :D

im 6ft2 with longish legs. with it right back my knees are bent a bit too much!

i mean the rear plate holder so it has a uk size rear plate, not the lights, there ace!
the 17's are on the xmas pressie list, so thats ok. thing is, i now want a st182....
