Im possibly buying a Nova with an E16SE engine fitted.

The owner says the oil light came on, and its started tapping/knocking. He has been told its the oil pump. Im nowhere near the car so cant tell for myself.

If the oil pump was to fail on this engine, what would the damage more than likely be? Shells?

Also, if the E16SE is mullered, how hard would it be to swap it in favour a C16SE, as i can lay my hands on one of those rather easily.

Cheers all.

block and head are interchangeable stan, so youll be fine. id say the shells may have gone, but also, the pump strainer can drop off....

I know the head and block can be swapped, but i can get a low mileage C16SE from an Astra MK3 Auto and im considering firing that in instead....

I suppose any 1600 bottom end will do yeah?

if the oil pump is shot, then the whole engine will be worn more.

the oil light on is not necessarily the oil pump failing, so check the connection first. the knocking could be the tappets draining of oil, it could be in dire need of a service, so have a good look first.

Anyone?

I want to swap an E16SE bottom end for a C16SE. Whats the differences? (if any)

Cheers.
