My mate has told me that if i get a 1.4SR block, 1.3 head & crank and 1.2 pistons and rods from a certain year its possible to make a 1450cc uber high compression engine.

anyone else heard of this? i think those are the right parts

a mate mine built a 14 bottom end and 1.3 top end carbd with a twin choke and it went like the clappers of hell, he had probs with the starter and the flywheel but

i wouldn't say you could put 1.2 pistons in a 1.4 block, and to get 1450 i would of thought it would have to be machine work, but i do know the 1.3 head can be put on the 1.4 block to raise compression. Also if it was 1450 i would have thought pistons would have to be bespoke.

it might be the 1.2 head with 1.3 pistons rods n crank. ill see if he can find the guide on it as he said he has it lying around somewhere

Complete 1.2 engine with the 1.3 rods and crank, then a suitable carb.

Its 1.2 + 1.3 parts that = 1.4 Thers already a thread on here that goes into detail about what needs done.

whan I did the 1.2+1.3 = 1400 hi comp.... there weren't any 1.4 sr engines about, they were still new. basically I was making a 1400 using a mixture of off the shelf bits.

if you have a 1.4 sr engine, a 14nv, the spec is similar, the crank is the same as the 1300, but the 1400 piston height is not compatable with the 1200st piston height in my catalogue, the 12nv/nz piston is a much lower bore so it would be useless.

access to a decent machine shop would be needed anyway & machining the top of a piston is rather dangerous... opening out the dish is a lot safer, but still a risky job.

Never heard of it done with a 1.4 block.

hi guys i been reading the other thread about this and im REALLY interested in building this engine, however it got slightly confusing, do you need to modify the 13s block to fit the 12st pistons?
im going to be making a shopping list soon but if you need to start modding the block then im probibly not going to bother about it.

you can either bore out a 1300 block to take 1200 pistons, or fit 1300 crank & rods to a 1200 block

if you are doing an engine up, a rebore is a must. the 1200 pistons are 77.8mm dia as standard, the 1300 pistons are 75mm dia. as standard. the cost to rebore is not that much. getting the crank ground is also a must, as these engines are all old and worn.

to make a hi comp 1400, you need 4 x 1200st pistons & rings, and a 1200 gasket set
and probably a new oil & water pump.

these engines are as easy to work on as it gets.... if you are worried about a strip down & rebuild, then it is not advisable for you to do it. When I did mine, it was the first engine I had rebuilt, and I found it to be a great experience, and when it ran I was jumping for joy.

did you get it rr'd? or any base idea of what power it was pushing? i'm also very interested in this as a bit of fun...

not worried about it, managed to strip and rebuild a ford engine back in college. its a future project i might consider. what is the bore on a 1300s engine then? if its not a huge costing job ill certainly consider it

1300s engine is 75mm bore dia as std.

ps. baxters was a cracking engine...... it had several cracks in the end

back at the thread,, the only way to get 1450cc is to go oversize on the 1200 pistons....
