View Full Version : Nitro car help needed
Dusted down my old relic of a 4WD mk1 Kyosho Spider today - been meaning to for a while.
Finally got it running, not bad for being laid up 5 years lol. Then the pull start snapped :( Anyone know how to remove them? The engine is out but I can't see how to get the pull start off.
P!ssed off lol

normally is 4 little allen bolts in each corner going intot the block
Cheers dude, nothing obvious there. Just what appears to be a pin going through the centre.

*edit. Not my car but same model.
Should just be 4 allen bolts on the back of the engine that go through the pull start casing into the back of the crank casing, then it pulls off, shouldn't be hard to spot at all?
Maybe it's under the grease! lol
I will take a look. Cheers lads.

erm from what i can see froom that pic the big one in the middle /?
Old skool lol Can't remember how those ones come off, try from the other side of the pull start, i.e engine side?
Old but fast lol. 2 speed, tuned manifold and pipe and some other crap. 60-70mph so 'they' say' lol It's about 10 years old lol Just ask my BTCC Primera and mk1 Mondeo shells lol
CoolTiger, the big one is more like a pin/rivet
id say take the lump out and strip it down. looks like a basturd tho limp... msn me if ya need any help...
Why would you strip the entire engine to wind up a pull start?

Thats a standard manifold.
I've got a ts4n thats got a 2speed and tuned pipe, that thing is quick! Also got a 1/8th scale buggy with a .21 engine for on the sand when I was at uni. single speed, but twin disk break all bias adjusted, sweet... :)
Seeing this makes me want to get them out lol
sand is epically bad for little cars! like driving a full size car in a pit of tiny gravel chips gets into everywhere!

Pull start is off now, no screws, it just prised off. Anyone know where to get the nylon? cord to rewind it and how to go about it? Rather that than spend 20 quid on a new one lol.

Your cars sound sweet BTW mate. Definitley dig them out lol.
I want a 1:5 :thumb: I made an external cage for my mates 1:5 buggy with a SWB Shogun shell. 15mm copper FTW lol
Mmmm salt and dirt! lol It's not so bad if you clean it all off I guess, it's the people that throw them at beaches constantly then wonder why their transmission is funked in 2 months that make me laugh

B&Q sell white cord, might be a good place to look.
I've had them snap before but it was usually the spring :(
The cord usually goes when its soaked in the oil as it seeps out the crank.
its snapped, you have to take it off to fit it.....

honestly mate, ive always hated pull starters,
go on ebay and find a starter box, set it up, push the car down on the box, and it starts, due to a nice big hard rubber wheel, which throws your flywheel round :D ive always used them, and no more, one way bearings, pullcords etc
Novaboi_1991 Yeah mate I hate pull starts too, this thing used to fcuk me off loads by not starting. Unsure if I can use a starter box though, as the flywheel doesn't protrude.
Rob, I reckon I could have just prised it off with the engine in situ mate.
Chimp, cheers for that mate. Will see if the old boy in the model shop can rewind it for a fiver as I've heard - saves the massive fiddly carry on lol. If not will have a bash myself.

How much are you after mate? Could be interested, doesn't the flywheel have to protrude through the chassis though? I assume the box can be used when there's a pull start connected too?

or you could just buy my new one in the misc for sale section lol, yeh there should be a slot under the car that links the flywheel on the drive shaft to the flywheel of the starter box
Ah. Will take a look at chassis tommorrow mate to see :). Bet you want loads for starter box though lol. BTW - just messaged mate on MSN, says he has sorted a BMX :S
Your RC buggy is same make as my mates 1:10. Seem like good gear :)
