On the top of the selector housing the diagram shows 5 gears but I read somewhere that this was the same whether 4spd or 5spd?

Anyone know if this is right?

And how do you tell if its a 4spd or 5spd box?

If it has the diagram its a 4speed box, even though it has 5 speeds on the diagram, and this dones NOT work on a 5speed.

cool thought it would be a 4spd but got confused with it having the 5spd diagram bit!

Yep, they all seem to be like that and when trying one of those on a 5speed box it didnt work. Not much gain from changing to a 5speed though, i guess it will mean you wont try for 5th like used to do a lot lol

Think it must be!! When linkage was slack it felt like it had 5 but its a 4spd linkage/selector rod so difficult to tell for sure as once its set right it will only take 4 as I think there is a metal lug you have to grind off the 4spd selector bit near gearstick to get 5 but not doing this if its a 4 spd!

I did that once going for 5th with a 5 speed, 7000rpm in 4th at the time, luckily I realised before I'd let the clutch back up fully!

all f10s will show the 5 speed setup on the selector housing/turret

to tell if it is a 4 or 5 speed you will want to look through the wheel arch on the passenger side and look at the side of the gearbox. if it has a huge nut (like 30mm or so) it is 4 speed if its very small then its 5 speed.

think it was this way around :D

Cheers for that!

Checked it against the 1.3SR and they both look the same from under wheelarch - both have female allen key bolt thingys that look same size!

So can I use the existing 4 spd gearlever/rod? Seem to remember there is a lug that you cut off it to get 5th?

Yep if its a gearstick froma 4 speed Nova then you will need to lift the gear gaitor and you will see a wee nobbly bit on the right hand side of the gearstick lower down, cut this off :thumb:
