View Full Version : What Headunit
Got 300-450 to spend. Any ideas?
Not 2 sure, theres lots 2 choose from, 1 thing tho, i dont recommend the sony active black panel as the front face doesnt come off itit has a security code, but im sure it could get unblocked!
Look into the Alpine range. They are all good, even if you just get a ?200 one at the bottom of the range..
Got one, pioneer mp3 one with the blue displays, remote etc ?370 quid & free fitting
I had a Pioneer DEH-P6100R and now i've a JVC KD-SH909R and it sounds really good (much better than pioneer), i'd avoid pioneer head units, they're very expensive for the sound you get... i wont speak about the sony's... :)

Alpine everytime for headunits. For features, looks, reliability and SQ you can't go wrong.
Rock solid performer - any model to be honest.
If your after ultimate SQ though.....
Alpine 7909R
Alpine 7909L
Nakamichi Brand
Eclipse Brand
most of them have dacs rated over 20-bit..... expect to pay 1k +
if you just want a head unit Alpine are v good - alternatively if you want extras I picked up an excellent JVC with 12 disc changer for under ?300!

Ive got the 7400MP and to be honest it sounds mint! I wouldn't say the sound quality has that much to do with the head unit! Well obviously it does but the speakers and wiring can make just as much difference!
I'd rate my headunit highly and thats taking into account that i got mates with sony, alpine, clarion and JVC. They all had their strengths like better bass and so on, also pioneer are cheap from some places!
Anton is yours the 7400MP? If so then you got ripped amte and I'd take it back coz I got mine (yeah I had to fit, but no probs!!) for ?240 inc delivery but no remote!

Forget Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood and the like you want quality sound, forget all those flashing lights and bollox gimmicks get yourself a 'true' quality sound.
Nakamichi
Beker
Rockford

ITS A FCUKIN NOVA and will be nicked in like days if someone knows the retail value of one of them!
SOMETIMES PRACTICALLITY CAN BE OVERRIDEN MY SMUGNESS!

Jesus Whitey Chill out!
Look at the budget stated in the first post 300-450 well within the relms of Nakamichi.
I have a Nak H/U fitted in my ride I'd say it was less likely to be targeted by a theif than a HQ Pioneer or Alpine unit as it looks so plain.
What ya saying Whitey that there's no point in fitting Quality gear to a Nova? Oh and that they are unsecure!

come on calm it down don't be arguementative ...
Sorry guys, bad day and also yeah I do think even know that novas are unsecure! (so is any car) but particually novas without the obvious precautions! (AUTOMATIC MACHINE GUN ON CAR ENTRY)
I agree quality is good but a budget like that for a headunit has to really sorta look at extending it! As you know there is no point unless you get the car sound deadened and do everything properly first time!
For example, a ?350 Nakamichi HU is cool but then peeps would probably ruin it by gettin a big amp with crap cables! Things like cables and all the so called "extras" propably cost just as much as the equipment itself in the long run!
Anyway
Anton, that HU cost me ?235 in the end inc delivery but with no fitting or remote! Remote is ?25 separate!
So mine was ?110 cheaper than yours without fitting!!! I'd take it back and get it cheaper elsewhere and get a mate to ft it if you not confident enough!
Good HU though I must say!

Ps if you wanna know where to get it cheap then PM me!
wasn't my money so I don't mind
