Im looking to move out of the sticks and into town, so the Cavalier has to go http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/sad.gif

(Shameless linking: http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118739 (http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=492748)http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/wink.gif)

I have the chance of a 1.2 8v Corsa for a reasonable fee...

What are they like on fuel?

Ive had a few 1.2 Novas but cant remember what they were like on fuelhttp://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/confused.gif

Cheap as chips, obviously if you start thrashing it all the time then it wont exactly be economical but they are pretty spot on for a runaround.

Mines crap on fuel at the moment, but it's needed a service a while to be honest, and I tend to have a heavy right foot.

Probably still get high 20s out of it, on a long run well into 30s though.

The tanks in Corsas are only about 5ml anyway are they not!?!?!

Did 272 miles in a 4 speed nova on about £35 worth of petrol i think, back when it was 1.10-1.20 a litre too iirc!

A fair bit of that is town driving, and it will return alot more than that on a run, but i only ever stick a full tank in, and i ALWAYS get 340 miles to a 60ltr tank. No matter how hard its driven.

Remember though a 1.2 8v Nova/Corsa will be driven on full throttle most of the time to get it up to normal speeds so that could come into the fuel consumption

My dad reckoned my Nova 1.2i 4 speed could get about 40/45 MPG...On a run that is

Same 42 litre as a Nova IIRC?

I was going to say the same as mike lol

£10 got me about 100miles with 3 people and wheels in the car. But thats IIRC as my memory is ****e!

When I had a 1.2 carb (completly std)
17mpg on frosty morning drives to work that was 2 miles away
45-50 mpg when I was mega poor as a student making a tank last big time before a job started

I've tried making tanks last as long as possible, never works though lol Right foot wins every time :(

I'd go with that, my old 1.2 used to return around 35-40mpg, mixed driving.

As Vaughan said though, if you hammer it, the mpg drops. Bear in mind my XE'd saloon used to return an average of 38mpg. lol

thats not true at all. when driving round town mine doesnt go above 2500rpm and when accelerating up to motorway speeds i just nail it in second and then drop it into fourth

£35 quid works out to be 30 litres at 1.15/litre, so doing 130 miles more on a 42 litre tank sounds about right

I used to get 35mpg out of my carbed 1.2 8v around town doing takeaway delivery on standard 145 80 13s. It dropped to 28/30mpg the moment the business got busy, I got 185 55 14s, lowered it and learnt how to drive the thing properly! Long run on 145 80 13s you can expect mid 40s if its in a fine state of tune, you'll see low 40s on wider tyres. Make sure you get the carb sorted though as it will save you cash in the long run through fuel.
