ok guys i stripped then car down and found, as per usual, it rotten.
so far ive got on my replacement list-
both front wings
front end panel
both outer sills
both rear arches
rear panel
totalling around 500quid in parts alone.
also this being a project its getting engine swap (again) full respray etc etc
now i bought this car when i was 17 (first car) so its got quite alot of value to me.
but im beginning to the is it worth spending more money on it?
last thing i want is to spend however many thousands on it and a few years down the line finding out that ive got to do it all over again.
im struggling to justify whether its worth carrying on with it or just break it for parts and sell up?
its quite a scary thought for me.
i would appreciate some feedback cos i cant think what the hell to do. im in two minds about the whole thing.
sounds like my car.
I would rebuild it :thumb: to many novas are getting broken and scrapped.
If you can afford to and have the know how then keep at it, but dont get yourself into thousands of pounds of debt over it.
if you wont save it sell it some one that will! save the dying breed of novas
Can you weld? If not, i wouldnt bother IMO.
And you say all the outer bits, but what about whats behind them!

the money side of isnt a problem itll just take time. money loans are out of the question. so there isnt a problem with getting into debt.
maybe its just me thinking about whats its actually going to cost to rebuild it and comparing it to the actual value of the car too much.
i think its more the problem of spending the money and time doing it and then possibly realising that i have wasted my time and money on it when i could have done something more productive with it(the money and time)
if that makes sense.
or i could be sounding like a right fairy about it. (need a wake up call and slap) lol
Totally depends how much you want to save the car, you have to remember that you will only be doing this for yourself because obviously you never make your money back on cars after doing this sort of rebuild. But on the other hand if you really want to save it and it has sentimental value to you then stick it in a garage and do bits when you can and buy bits when you can, you dont need to finish it in a week...mine wont be done till next year at the earliest and most of the time i never go near it!
I would say go for it but its not my time or money so in the end only you can decide if its worth it or not.

SAVE IT! if you'll love it and have the money it will be well worth it,I did a lot of restoration to my lovely nova and i'm so proud of it now!:thumb:
If you have the skill to do it yourself then yes. If not then its going to cost alot of money! You could find another nova in better condition and swap the bits over, would be alot cheaper in the long run. Just dont reshell it into another rotter
Edit- if you have a garage/workshop or somwhere to do it and take time, go for a rebuild! Everyone has to learn somwhere, if it goes wrong at least you tried!

im gettin like this, my mk2 failed its mot in jan and it needs a fair bit of work to get it right again. i know its monetary value is pish all, but i love it too much. i watch far too much Discovery Turbo for someone without a garage or ability to weld, so i get ideas above my station about the car :S
Im gonna hang in there with mine, spend on it where i have to. Hopefully if i keep it goin for a couple years ill have somewhere to rebuild it by then.
i'd say stick with it, but only coz im doin it too lol
TBH by the sounds of it Id fcuk it off & either get a clean shell or start a new leaf in life with a different motor.
How do you get £500 in parts from those panels? front wings are easy enough to get off of breaking/scrap novas long as they're in good nick. rear arch repair panels are only about £15 a piece, rear panel is 80 iirc, front end probably the most expensive, about £130 or so i think? I make it closer to 300 myself!

just been looking at prices of panels, i didnt make a mistake and got price for rear wings not repair panels- my bad. thats with vat included in that figure.
gaz i sold a mint shell with lots of trick bits for 300. if its 300 or so in bits then the labour etc on top its not worth it. good novas go for 700 up on ebay, id break it and get another. try a 4dr.....

Why sell/scrap it?
People waste tons of money on crap :thumb:
So, keep it, use it, or to save scrapping it, autograss/rallycross the thing!
Imo keep it, get help, and get it going again :thumb:

What are the other areas like? If the rear panel, and cross member are rotten, how do the chassis legs look? Also as people have asked, will you be doing the work yourself? Thats where the costs will rise! Its the time that costs, not the panels.....
