hi. ive been looking for a 2.5 for ages and my mate has had this in his garage for 2weeks now so bought it, because im sick of all v6 lumps been miles away :(

its come out of a sport so thought it was a x16xe, its had a bottom end rebuilt and head rebuilt less than 6 months ago so for the peanuts ive paid for it should be abit of fun. but when i have cleaned it up today ive noticed its a x16xel  which from what i can find out is a zafira/astra/vectra engine is this correct???? it says that the L stands for low power/superchaged???

also just wanting some tuning info on these little XE lumps

Basically a 1.6 16 valve the same as x16xe with a more sturdy head. Sloth prefers these to the c16 iirc. Tuning wise depends on cash really. What you thinking???

making an inlet tube, 4-1 manifold then ive got my xe stainless, would like to put it on bodies or bike carbs but going to need a mappable manangment

What's the difference between an C16XE and an X16XE and which is a better engine? Or is that a whole thread of it's own?

iv got x16xe bottom end, c16xe top end, DTA management, set of crappy cams, powerbox,
cant beat it :)

the head on the c16xe flows better, but its got a crappy AFM which will **** up

ive read on a search that the later head is better as its got bigger ports???

General Baxter

c16 makes 107bhp
x16 makes 104bhp
x16l makes somewhere around 95bhp

iirc

The very latest head casting (number: 90400187) uses triangular inlet ports, which work a lot better, gaining up to 12bp

C16xe = corsa Gsi, no immobilsers and easier fitting (says me lol)

X16xe = corsa sport, immobilser/transponder key (needed to run) with extra bits ie egr..

X16xel = astra, same as above really just newer.

iirc the xel has a longer inlet manifold which is a right of squeeze into the bay

ive seen somewhere that the EGR can be removed ?

not removed more like stick a metal plate in it and leave it plugged in

Wow didnt know there were so many different 1.6 16v engines, have some +Rep for being really informative lol

you may get away with it then mate lol
go get a power box inlet for it

valvercorsa

going to get one :) and a 4-1 exhaust manifold :) then see how much bhp that gives me then maybe a set of cam's

mine is a x16xel with x16xe inlet lol
A note of advice BEWARE. I'm not going to say it won't work but I hope you don't have the same hassle and tears I've had trying to combine two variations. Mine was however a c16 engine and I was trying to fit x16 management, loom, inlet and throttle body but it did't work.
Sensors to the throttlebody major issue.

dont fit a 4-1 unless its mega modded, stick with the std manifold and downpipe

Did you get they transponder key and ignition wiring with the xel. If not then better start looking if running injection.

Also Baxter you could have put up a forth picture which is yours (Inbread c/x16xe lol and update that kill list.

c16 makes 107bhp

iirc

in standard form yes but thats due to the **** inlet manifold design.

just paid £100 for this so dont think done too bad as its got £1k worth of reciepts with it, head work, bottom end rebuild and got black diamond clutch in too.

your 11o miles away mate lol wouldnt mind traveling that far for something small but an engine lol thinnk ill stick with the little 1.6 for now until i can get a nice 3.0 lump

You got the best engine imo. the x16xel has the best flow head for tunning! I would do the normal things you would do with a x16/c16 and have good manifold. Will see good power from it :thumb:

i no am going to see kid who was going to make my space frame :) make a powerbox and manifold :~)

AlexW

Unless you want to bugger about with it id just fit a powerbox, maybe some half decent cams and a 4-2-1 exhaust, 4-1 wiill (IIRC) put more power up top, and theres already a lack of power further down the rev range.

My 1.4 is going alright now..... apart from a oil leak. And there preety much the same engines, just lacking a few bhp, but cheaper to run :D
