Was just wondering as the orange autotest Nova I have has a 13SB engine but also has the twin-pin oil pressure switch the same as the Nova SR and has an F13 gearbox...

Thought it could be a Nova SR engine but wasn't 100% sure...

Nova /astra

Only the Nova was fitted with a 13SB, the Astra engine is a 13S

I'd like to know the differences. the bottom end internals are identical, I'm guessing the head is too, is it down to the cam & carb that makes a 13sb 5hp less than a 13s???

I think the main difference is the compression ratio, as that's usually what the second letter stood for on the ohc engines, or it might be that the S has the 1B1 and the SB has the 2E3.

13SB's did come in SR's aswell as other models.

Doesnt the "B" refer to a different CR?

From what I know there are all pretty much identical, the 75HP variant uses the the Varijet II carb and the 69HP one has a pierburg 1b or 2E carb depending on year.

13S didn't come with 1b1, the mk1 astra 13S had varijet and mk2 astra had 2e3.

^^Going on experience.

So it could be a 1300 SR Nova engine after all ? :)
