i have been busy buying and selling parts of late. i have built up a good collection of parts to get the car set up properly.

the car was bought off ben a couple of years ago, it started off as a 1.2 vegas or something simular to that.
i have since bought a c16xe and never fitted it, a c16se group a spec and never fitted it. i have now bough a c20xe as i need better fuel ecconemy.

here's a few pictures of the car and my new toys.

new cage, bough the pilbeam one that was yellow off rallycraig. great cage but had it painted ford graphite grey and had an extra 4 meters of roll bars fitted

i will use the tie points to get the cage bolted up to the shell to make it extra rigid
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/DSCN0801.jpg made nice by cutting carpets around the feet
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/DSCN0800.jpgtried to fit it nicely into the dash

now for the new toys
mim alloys and direct air induction kit

How'd you do the dash mate looks cool

srs1
05-04-09, 11:17 PM
no idea what mim's they are. swapped them for some ice and some grooved 256mm discs for the car.

peester, i have been back for a while just been doing things behind the scene.
i did run under 6 secs at trax, did it in 5.6 seconds and it was spinning all the way. this car wont be as good engine spec wise, have got a house now and get maried in 6 weeks. so priorities etc.

i will have all this in and in pretty sharpish, going to stitch weld all the engine bay up too and also bring the roll cage through into the engine bay

srs1
05-04-09, 11:18 PM
dash was done by my mates.

http://www.mda-motorsport.co.uk/

the car should be in there. they welded the cage in and also added the extra bars to the cage.

Looks good dude, love the dash.

srs1
05-04-09, 11:26 PM
considering i have no sun visors, i barely get any sun glare. thats the reason why all the rally boys do the flocked dash, it stops light reflecting off the dash into your eyes.

i am still debating more bars to go in. the front bars to the suspension is going to happen regardless, just thinking of extra bars to support the roof from the b pillar and also to tie the cage to the shell.

i have always been playing behind the scene will, just not really been saying what i was doing untill i was ready. with car through yet another mot with no issue's the shell is def a great place to start.

other things i am thinking about are hydrolic hand brake, aeroquip lines for the brakes and ofcourse a gripper dif or tran-x one.
need to get a new pass door also.

i have othe bits lying around to be fitted too, just cant remember them lol.

wheels are 16", i actually got them off will f from above.

engine will more then likely be getting fitted on a friday and sat and back to work on the sunday with a few more horses to play with. then its a case of getting used to the extra weight again.

srs1
27-04-09, 08:24 AM
progress so far, pics to follow.

engine is in. riggy came down on friday and we had the old one out and new one fitted in about six hours. had a bbq aswell, rude not too with the nice weather hahaha.

riggy is back down again today and the weather has turned nasty, so gazeboo time i think.
still to do is the wiring up and fitting new fuel pump.

other things done since the thread started.
fitted some grooved discs
fitted the eccentric top mounts.

started looking at the oil cooler last night and also my oil pressure regulator and dials. this and a volt gauge will be going where the air vent in centre of the car was.

pictures to follow and more from today.

update time i guess.

done a few bits on it a few weeks ago and had a few issue's.
these are now all ironed out and ready for the next phase of jobs.

so new toys
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/newtoys.jpg
peddle box, bias valve and hydrolic handbrake (thanks to novashed)

rear beam
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/DSCN0796-1.jpg

so removed the old beam and also the interior to prep the inside. handbrake was removed and then the hydrolic one put in place as a guide.
also removed all the sound deading as the internal brake line would be going through that way.
see pics below.

whilst we were at it, plated up the rear disk beam for extra strength as it was going on to rear coil overs and this made sure the brackets held up to the job.
also removed the exhaust tunnel cover and drilled the spot welds out, so the brake lines could run neatly inside the tunnel. Going to go for an internal shifter at some point when the engine gets removed for more work over the winter months. also fitted a rear solid gear box mount, as i wasn't happy with the movement in the engine bay. helped loads more now
here are the pictures as they do the talking now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/peddleboxdone.jpg
with all this done it was time to move onto the front and rear bumpers.
i recently aquired some gsi front and rears. gave them a quick rattle can of vw black paint of some kind.

as you can see i also decided to reversve the handrake.

it now sits upright and feels like a touring car style look about it.
not 100% happy with the postion, as when i set it up. didn't really tink about putting the seat back in and getting it perfect. oh well.
this will be all sorted out when the car comes off the road in a few weeks for more work.

next phase is,
4 pots calipers.
harness bars added to the x-bar in cage.
b pillar bars added to the rear suspention turrets.
caged tagged to shell
handbrake re-postioned.
stich weld engine bay and strengthen it up
hopefully a quickrack.

and i'll see what else pops up

Did some work on the car tonight.
started at 4.40 and finished at 9. so what does a good 4 hours of work get you these days?

Well,

i finally tidied up the hole for the ecu, smoothed all the edges and the bunge went in really nicely and its all sealed up.

fitted my bonnet pins, filled it all down and made the best job i could.

then onto the cage again (my little obsession)
the b pillar to the rear suspension bars were fitted tonight, these were fitted inline with the door bars, this will give strength parralel across the cars suppension. looks really good.

whilst had the welder out, harness bars were fitted to the rear x bars. this gives you better seat belt postion in the event of a rear end crash.

and whilst the welder was still out, did my front suspension top mount supports. so when i fianlly put my eccentric top mounts on, there will be added strength and support there in place.

Really pleased with the work done tonight and cant say thanks enough to mat at MDA motorsports. he is a legend and says it as it is.

pics to follow tomoz, i charged my camera up today to take photo's as we went, but forgot it. idiot i know.

next job this week, strengthened lower arms and eccentric top mounts fitted. do a full service and get the car ready for oulton park on the 6th.

Dave.

time for piccy's

welded up the v bar a little more into the shell. the front part of this box section was just left open, so knocked the plate more flush to the bar and welded it all up.

New B to the suspension bar. as explained in post above to why these extra bars
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/sean_srs/DSCN1130.jpg

you can just about see the harness bars in the first picture bu the second one you can see them through the boot easily enough.

aint took photo of the top mounts welded on, but i'll do that when i fit the eccentrics next week.
car is now all stiff and the only bits to the cage i have left is to do the triangulation to the front. once that is done, time to spray it all up.
looking forward to oulton park next week. atleast i'll be safe if i roll it. hahaha

i did actually wash the car for that picture, in true tradition i never cleaned the wheels. too much hard work for all that.

a abd evening with the car.
bonnet catch snapped, so that threw me off a good 30 mins tonight.

only managed to get one of the strengthened lower arm, the poly BUSH was so hard to get it to fit. shall be doing the other side today and then onto the eccentrics.
order new bolts for the sandwich plate, so the oil cooler will be getting fitted next week.

cars taking shape now.

load more work done last night.

the lower arms are now in completely with poly bush's. also fitted the eccentric top mounts and the car now handles a million times better.
i'll take some pics tomorrow when i'm out.

all thats left to do is the oil cooler and bit of a service on the engine for next sat. sandwhich plate arrived this morning, so i'll fit that next week. might see if i can get my oil pressure switch in also. swap my clocks for ones that have a rev counter on.
Also picked up some etch primer, so will give the rear archs a quick blast over and give the paint gun a once also. tidy up little bits here and there.

all i can say is, get eccentric top mounts, they make the car feel like a completely different car. well worth it!

Adam
30-01-10, 04:44 PM
Yeah a rev counter may be handy for next weekend! lol

scott.parker

been playing with the car again getting it ready for billing.

tbh i'm not 100% happy with what i wanted to get done in time. but working nights just makes it more interesting when the wife needs the car for work also.

anyway things i have done and will get pics from billing later today.

engine bay.
how much do i hate cleaning the engine, i tried once to polish it and it took a hour or two and still looked pants. so i ripped the rocker cover and cam belt cover off and painted it.
Mattbrown also lent me his powercap to use for the show. so all nicely painted up and looks like i've made an effort.

finally painted the suspension top mounts white. not a great job, but enough to tidy them up. i was gutted to find out the eccentric mount bolts were too short and i could't fit my strut brace. could get it done but time was limited.

also while i was busy getting high on rattle cans, i decided to tart up the archs and door. arches were bashed out with hammer due to rubbing with rear disk conversion. door had a nasty scab on it.

mattbrown again supplied me with some gsi sideskirts. so a rattle can later in volkswagon diamond black (match bumpers) and a trip to the scrappy for skirt clips (£3) and a load of rivots. came up well.

the rear cage was next, needed painting up where the new bars had been fitted a few months back. so there done now also.

did some bling bits whilst there, i painted the front and rear calipers in blue to go with my paint scheme.

last but least. bought some TFR, fantastic stuff. so i finally secumed to cleaning my wheels. they came up mint. actually looks like i made an effort. if the wheels are clean it means i have attempted to wash the car properly.

as said, not 100% happy with what i wanted to get done, have a gsi rear spoiler that i have painted up, just no time to fit, wanted to give the car a real good clean, but again a quick polish and i'm off.

pics to follow after billing

not done much to the car since billing and have taken the car off the road.

but after reading pauls and count's wip threads i'm feeling a litltle left out and the track is calling me.
i have since bought a diesel tow car, have complete access to a double wheeled trailer now. just need to buy a tow bar.

nova is coming back home today after i stripped it all out down at the garage. haven't done any work on it due to these nights are pants. so with car back on drive i can now spend a hour or two every morning on trying to get things done.

bought some more toys of late. i'll get photo's up pnce they all arrive. but i debated about going down the turbo route for a while and was on the look out, then saw paul sell his and made me re-think. so a different route has now taken shape.

ok right update time on what i have bought to upgrade the car

bought a coscast rebuilt xe engine. still need a few bits to finish it off thou. ie starter motor, alternator and bracket.

cbr 900 (fireblade) carbs, manifold and dizzy etc. basically the full set up

fiberglass bonnet
quick rack
plumbed in fire extinguisher
corsa gsi brake servo and master cylinder
bucket seats
willans 4 point harness, 3" ones

still to do get is strength kit
bmw 4 pot calipers and then make some brackets to fit onto nova hub. think this will be a good alternative to getting 4 pots for under £200 all in.
strengthen up the shell.

no pics as of yet, as awaiting parts to arrive and collect some also.
but looking forward to getting stuck in again.

got around to stripping the engine bay out a little yesterday. took out the heater blower in the car and in the bay. stripped out the wiper motor, peddle box (as sold it) cleaned up the battery tray.

basically a tidy up prior to me start cleaning up the seem seals and welding up them, got to cut he fire wall down a bit to make room for the carbs to cuck more air in. also remove a big chunk of it away from the battery tray as i'm fitting a corsa gsi brake servo and master cylinder.

went to blackpool yesterday and collected more toys.
will get pics up later.
picked up
fibre glass bonnet with scooby air vent (vent is not to my taste bt its a matter of practicallity over style, so will do the job perfectly)
fire extinguisher with pipeing to engine bay and pull cord from scuttle panel
elctrical cut off switch with pull switch from scuttle panel
quick rack, think its a 2.2 lock to lock.

either way another selection of toys to be added.
today i am removing the tank as i sold it and need to get a carb'd one instead. but this is gonna wait a bit now. gives me a good excuse to flip the car and underseal it all again. plus need to decide weather to put tank in the boot.
whilst out today i'm gonna get the powertools out and do some damage. lol

picked up gear box last night off lee h (big big thanks for holding onto it for me)

internal cav shifter.

mrs is off on holiday next week, so going to aim to get the inside of the car done, ie corsa brake set up dont and then re-locate the hydrolic hand brake next to where the cav shifter will go. then its a case of re-fitting the internal brake lines and the internal fuel lines and paint the floor up. might just hammerite the floor for now.

twin 8" fans arrived in the post today

as mat has already hinted at, bought 2 x 3" willians 6 point harness's (bought these as it was easier to buy a pair then a single one as i have a 4 point one all ready, see forsale thread if interested.)

also, bought 2 fixed bucket seats with mounts. so thats pretty much all i need to get etc.

time to get started on the build now, just need some more time in the day.

26-08-11, 10:06 AM
ok, the mrs was off this week so took the chance to have a quick session on the car.

no pictures as battery to the camera was dead. only spent a few hours down at garage, but i got the corsa servo mounting plate located, drilled out the holes and fitted the servo, peddle location is almost exactly were i want it to go, shall make more adjustments with the welder to its final position.

i have the keys to the motorsport garage now, so its full steam ahead come monday, (mat is off as a BH, so will be around to help.)
really cant wait now!

srs1
29-08-11, 09:14 PM
ok so day one has arrived and worked has began. and here are the pictures of todays events.
i'll just give you a write up now and just put the pictures up.

well, after only having 1 1/2 hours sleep yesterday, i kinda of overslept and finally woke up at 10. so got down the garage at 11.20. so the main priority was to get the triangulation into the the front and seal it all up, once this was done i'll be in a position to get a rattle can over it to get it protected. so this was done and i am happy with it.
once i was in the engine bay with the welder, made up some panels to fill the holes were the brake servo and support bracket was. i used the firewall i cut out a few weeks back, atleast it's the right colour.
i also had a little crack at doing the (count vaux alot's) brake peddle attachment ie the clutch cable support bit.
i cut out the bit the it used to fit onto using a hole saw, i'll get this welded on tomoz.

also as i was finishing off, i started to cut out the seat rails, i'll go out first thing tomoz and pick up some square tubing and some sheet to make new bracket for hydrolic handbrake.
also a quick photo of the new seats that arrived.
anyway, picture time.

no pictures from tonight as i never really got my teeth into anything today.

removed the seat rails, drilled, grinded and generally got peeed off with them.
bought some 3mm thick steel to make the support brackets for the seat rails, these are now cut and tidied up. also bought some 30mm square steel tubing to use for the seat supports. but i am aiming for a long days graft tomoz.
i dont think i'll be as advanced with this as i wanted to be now. i'll do some painting tomoz, engine bay and the engine covers. i'll also bolt up the mounts to the engine. once paint has dried i'll get engine into the car.
will have to see if i get done what i want tomoz.

srs1
31-08-11, 09:00 PM
ok another days mincing, today after a disatress start to the day (baby woke up at 2 am and gave me hell) so i woke up really late. gutted!
anyway

removed the gearbox lever and all the housing for it, also cut a plate for the hole to filled in.
i also painted the spark plug cover white!
also painted the engine bay white, it's not a great job, but its a rattle can effort and it gives it some protection for the winter.
cleaned up the area's for the seat brackets to be welded in tomoz, delayed this as i wanted mat to give me advice on fitting the seats properly as he's done it a few times before.
i also changed the hubs tonight for the new ones i had with stud conversion done.

really want to spend some time with the baby thou, so friday is a day off, so with this in mind, car will not be completed by this week.

Just a quick question, are you going to brace the battery tray to Bulkhead area? In terms of for the Corsa pedal.

well finally a small update!
jobs done yesterday are:-
plated the bracket to the corsa peddle box, so thats the clutch now all stronger.
welded in the last bar for the bucket seat and also trial fitted them both, well happy with them.
drilled and fitted both the pull cords on the front of the car.
sealed in the two top triangulations as i missed them when i did the others.
painted the floor pan.
also started cutting out the vents in the roof scoop, placed it on the roof to see what it looks like.

will add photo's of all jobs done above at a later date.
but windows next and put the fire extinguisher in and also the battery, paint the rear part of the floor pan and fit fuel tank and lines.
that will finish the interior off i think. bar fit the dash again etc.

Done mesh as the vent to prevent bugs coming in. Then used directional round vents on the inside and sealed them. Then gonna drill a hole into the unit and put a drainage tube in that will run down the cage side. Pics to follow. I pop rivet it on with sealant in between the layers, with holes in the roof.

As you can see the car is still taking shape. I am miles and miles behind where I want to be. Main aim is to get it finished lol this year maybe.

Poly carbs windows upfront in still sides to do. Rear floor pan painted and internal fuel lines fitted. Just really nee to buy new gaskets seals etc and wire/plumb in.

Being off sick and arm in a cast does have some advantages. The fibre glass bonnet and wings are now stripped down, prepped, primer'd and painted. So all good.

Oh dear. Been 3 years since I've done anything. I've bought more and more stuff.

I've painter the fibre glass wings and bonnet.
Last bits to source now are a decent mk2 dash to get re-flocked. A new mk2 grill and a lower bracket for the alt.

ive picked up a few bits since, lower strut brace, battery cage to relocate to the boot, rose jointed tie bars and lower arms and prob more bits too.

Starting to get all my parts together for a mincing session.

Hoping to have the car 90% finished in a day.
