i'm just about ready to rebuild my engine, and i got lots
of genuine gm parts from my local vauxhall dealer
about a year ago.

i was having a look at them today to see if there is
anything i still need, took the sump gasket out of the box and there
are two?????
i can't remember when i stripped it if there was two?

might sound like a stupid question but does the nova gsi have two
sump gaskets fitted together?

or do the genuine ones come as a set of two

or there mistake they have just given me two
and only charged me for one

its a 92/93 nova 1.6 8 valve gsi

any help would be great :thumb:
cheers stu

Oh right, so it is similar tot he XE setup. If thats the case, have a look for a baffle plate with the gasket bonded to it like the XE. I changed the gasket on that and put one either side of the baffle and its leaking again...

It has 2 gaskets, i'm in the middle of changing mine. I've been recomended to use some non setting sealant such as hylomar to ensure a good seal :thumb:

I thought the baffle plate was welded into the sump, like it is on C14SE's?

there is a plate welded in the sump, but some have a plate that has a sump gasket either side of it and fixed on with the the sump bolts like the xe

Sorry for bringing up an old thread.

I seem to be having some problems with my sump gasket.

Ive just read that if there is no baffle plate there should only be 1 sump gasket and if there is a baffle plate there should be 2? Is this correct.

Next dumb question lol

What the hell does the baffle plate look like lol i cant remember having one on my e16se. But yet i still fitted the 2 gaskets as thats what was supplied, does anyone reckon this could be the cause of my massive oil leak when the car is running. Its pouring out of the gaskets at the rear of the sump when the oil is hot?. All the sump bolts are tight so that isnt the cause?

the extra plate is often called a windage plate, they are about £20 new from vauxhall. If your rebuildig the engine I'd get one fitted.

Took the sump off tonight, and it turns out i do have one lol just forgot about it. There is new gaskets either side of it but yet it still leaks. Least of my worries just now though.
