i bought a non runing corsa a few years ago with a 1200/1300 race preped engine. how ever the engine was out of a nova and the previous owner tried to get it running with standard 1.2 injection system from the corsa. i bought it and it was not injecting any fuel, i played about with it on and off for a while before i took the engine out and fitted a 1500td, mot'd it and its been stood ever since lol. any way after finding out i've got to keep my vw bora as i can't afford to ensure a audi tt yet (only 19) i decided to dig the old petrol engine out and start a bit of a road/track car out of it. i purchased some ninga bike carbs and intended on fabricating a manifold up my self and running it like that. however i managed to find a 1300 nova sport inlet manifold, twin 40's and bottom half of the air box for a bargin price so snapped them up and threw my plans up side down, my original plan was to lash it all to gether chuck it in my recently aquired corsa (now for sale, check out the classifieds) and have some fun. but now with the proper carbs i thought if a jobs worth doing it worth doing right, so i set about stripping the engine for a rebuild, i was dissapointed to find that it has a 1.2 block not a 1.3 as i thought. i stripped the 1.3 head down and cleaned it up and for some reason only the inlet had been ported and polised? so i set about doing the exhaust side my self with a die grinder and dremmel, it was not that hard to do apart from getting them all the same! i rebulit the head with new stem seals. and gave it a coat of paint. i decided not to re shell and fit new rings a i idealy want 1.3 block. i painted this aswell. i cleaned up and painted the cam box, inlet manifold and rocer cover aswell and sanded the paint of off the lettering etc. its ready to go back to gether as soon as i get some new head bolts. i just need to get hold of a mk1 1.3 sr now and start a bare shell rebuild into a sport replica. i will post up some pics as soo as i'm allowed. any comments and tips will be appreciated, tom

as my tubular manifold got given to the skip (thanks dad) i've decided to make one for now, a friend donated me a tubular off of a lotus elise so i'm going to chop off the lotus flange and make and weld my own one on. found a sheet of 8mm (ish, off the top of my head) plate at my dads workshop, and marked around the exhaust gasket and started to cut it out, not going to be a 5 min job! will post some pics when i find my phone..

Cracking setup for the engine and looks vibrant too. IMO it would look spot on in a nice clean white nova.

A tip for your wording matey. Break the wording up a little to make it a bit easier to read lol I feel pi55ed now lol

Sport replica sounds good and a 1300 with twin carbs should make a nice racket.

started doing some more plating today, but got annoyed with it as the welder was playing, so i stripped the interior and engine out:

cutting the rust right out so it can't continue to grow after its plated

almost all out, wot a pain it is getting all the sound proofing stuff off is

got new head bolts today, so that i can reassemble the engine ready to go in after i stitch weld and paint the bay. i thought before i build it back up i'll dig out my old college notes and measure the actual cc of the engine. now i was told by the previous owner that it had the 1.3 crank and rods fitted and that makes it 1400 high compression...

now

bore area = bore x bore x pie / 4

so:

7.8 x 7.8 x 3.14159 / 4 = 47.78

stroke = 6.25

volume of one cylinder = 47.78 x 6.25 = 298.63

volume of all cylinders = 298.63 x 4 = 1194.52 cc

so after all that its just a standard  or have i done somthing wrong?

Hmm don't know what to say about the engine, sounds like the previous lied about it if you've done the maths on it. :wtf:

Panels seem to fit alright though so thats good, are you still building the engine up as it is or you gonna look for a 1300/1400?

Nice work that man! Upholding the smallblock corner.

If you want to build a hybrid 1400, you need the 1200 bock, with the 1200 pistons & 1300 crank & rods. This will have a high CR, so twin 40's & a nice setup are necessary as is a high lift cam & headwork to make the most of it.

Ace car in the making. I'll keep watching.

thanks for all of the positive comments :thumb:, got lots of bits painted today (rear beam, stubs etc.) and got the suspension and front barkes off my spare corsa to be cleaned up and painted for the nova.

been thinking i might take the firewall out before its to late, just what to do about the wiper motor??

also got an idea for the wheels i'm going to use to begin with, got two sets i have in mind 15's and 17's but i think that the 17's might be to much

i'm taking the badges of to paint the boot but then might put them back on not sure yet, got an odea of how its going to look when its done now, not so much sport style now, i'm thinking white and red colour scheme.

pics will be up as soon as i can get my phone to work, n96=dog sh**e lol

Cheers for the answer to my question...

Novas, coming on good.... liking the idea of the old school 15's.

p.s. most people leave the part of the firewall/bulkhead that the wiper motor bolts to, looks ok. They just cut out all except for that area. Read a few track cars threads...

Smallblock FTW! nice to see a baby one too (non-1600) Good luck with the rest of the project, very interested to see this one turn out :)

Regards to the wiper motor, most people leave it like mine:

or as im planning to do, is fit a citroen AX/ZX wiper on the scuttle panel, but this is only a single wiper...

i know tom's busy, so il try an answer it, i believe he used VHT paint, I.E very high temperature paint, even if he didnt, id highly recommend it, as it doesnt start burning off until 650 degree's celcius, 1200 degree's fahrenheight

i used high temp engine enamel for the engine, brush and sprays are availible from most motor factors etc.

jus reading through your project, looking good, n yeah i think you use 1200 pistons in a 1300 n it makes it 1400 ish, i was thinking of making one but im toying now with the idea of a 1600, one thing i would say is i know youve beautifully painted the cam cover but i would change it for a later one with a breather or its goodbye piston rings if your running webers, i learned the hard way lol

Steve

mate your welding and bodywork skills are top work , well done. them seat rails look very neat and strong.

As for the 1300 engine with 1200 pistons. Yes it has been tried and tested. Old rally trick. I had a 1300 nova sport engine in one of my old SR's. It had the 1200 pistons and worked 1400 injection head ( had to have a lot skimmed of the head mind to match the cr, but the valves are bigger ) weber 40 dcoe's, Irmsher 108 cam...etc engine made 109bhp on the rollers and seemed to rev forever:thumb:

keep up the good work pal

Nice thread hadnt seen it before, nice fabrication skills, although engine paint is a little bright the first time a saw it, but in a white engine bay Im starting to like the idea, and think it will look good.

got new head bolts today, so that i can reassemble the engine ready to go in after i stitch weld and paint the bay. i thought before i build it back up i'll dig out my old college notes and measure the actual cc of the engine. now i was told by the previous owner that it had the 1.3 crank and rods fitted and that makes it 1400 high compression...

now

bore area = bore x bore x pie / 4

so:

7.8 x 7.8 x 3.14159 / 4 = 47.78

stroke = 6.25

volume of one cylinder = 47.78 x 6.25 = 298.63

volume of all cylinders = 298.63 x 4 = 1194.52 cc

so after all that its just a standard  or have i done somthing wrong?
