hi,just a quick question on a possible mot failure.i recently bought a mk3 astravan, and the rear arch's have kinda "rotted" out, this just the arch's and not lower down to the sill!
was wondering if this may be a problem?
cheers
andy

Sharp edges will be. But if its within 30cm or somthing to any of the suspension then it could be a fail. Not sure tho.

yeah its just sharp edges you will need to worry about so if there are any get a grinder to them

or if you like the rust and want to keep it as a friend just stick some tape over it to cover sharp edges

it will fail dpending how close to the suspension it is and as for sharp edges all depends who carrys out the mot mine passed with rotted arches as
a advisory but had to get them sorted

Yup as already been said, if there are sharp edges then either cut them off or tape them up but if it has rotted quite far up then it will probably be within the 30cm of a load bearing point which would be the suspension top mount.

we had a mk3 astra van at work with the same problem, & one of the lads pop rivetted a bit of plastic over it. it passed.

best ive seen was the sills on a xr3 were on with silicone.

you should watch pimp my ride. they had an escort where the front half was pretty much siliconed to the back half
