I have to say, i really dislike them (looks-wise).

Granted, they go well etc etc, but i think they are really quite chavvy and look like a Nike training shoe......

Id prefer the older Vaux's myself....

Anyone else feel this?

See, i figured id find a few like minded people on here.

Ive also posted the same post on Corsasport.......

Should be an interesting divide!

i think they look nice

they are pure sex, fair enough they might be like "nike trainers" but at least they are radically changing their designs for some fresh eye candy.

plus the centre exhaust is sexxxxxyyy

I must admit i think theyre cool looking but im an old skool car man myself and plus now theyre getting a tad common especially the ring edition ones too (although they sound fantastic)

But i get more excited seeing a mint mk2 golf GTi or even a mk1 fiesta super sport or mk1 capri v8 all of which i have seen concourse (or near) examples in the last couple of weeks:thumb:

Who's gonna want a vxr that looks like a base model though? full on styling makes ticks the boxes for most i'd say.

Dont get me wrong im not saying i dislike them i just prefer older skool cars tbh, not just looks wise but driving feel aswell all this fly by wire crap youve got no feeling through anything especially the clutch and its comparable to driving an xbox imo lol

I still like stuff like vxr's its just theyre becoming like citoris'..................

Every C**t's got one!

John
04-04-09, 10:44 AM
I also prefer older stuff if i'm honest, but the vxr can't be written off as a "chav mobile" imo.

I'd have to disagree with you over the clutch, the newer hyd stuff is much more precise then the old cable stuff. Natural progession really. What's wrong with "fly by wire" Again much more precise.

Also "imo" the corsa vxr arctic is a stunning looking mini hot hatch.

Stanley
04-04-09, 10:46 AM
I dont mind the Arctic Corsa/Astra VXR's.

But, for example, an Arden Blue one, jeeeez....... Id feel more comfy driving a Corsa b with 15's and a Combat kit.

Ernie

I went to goodwood a few weeks back with Oli dhdev. On the way back i must of passed about 10/15 vxr corsa's in blue.
I lost count.

Vuaxhall must be doing something right then if they're selling in such big numbers lol.

Ive never actually driven a vxr but im going on an educated guess due to all of the new cars ive driven including a few clio 197's and new laguna coupes and GT's and there just doesnt seem to be any feeling in the clutch and i cant drive/set off in a newer car without riding the clutch badly and its annoying.

Even our RTE who drives a 55 clio 182 hates the newer ones for the same reason:cry:

Give me carbs and cable driven stuffs please:thumb:

Mk 4 astra gsi/sri turbo's look waaaaay better than the vxr's imo. you can see a lot of mk 2 astra's in the design of the mk4. dont like the mk 5 at all.

I most definitely WOULDN'T!

They're getting common but most are still standard and I don't see what's "chav" about that. 75%+ of young owners of corsas B&C most definitely ARE chav'd up!

I dont mind it but the older the better imo. for instance the astra

1. Mark 1 astra gte best looking of the lot
2. Mark 2 gte still a good looking car with better perfomance
3. Mark 3 gsi Not as good looking and abit slower then the mark 2 and its abit to round
4. Mark 4 gsi Dont really like these they dont stand out imo. unless its in arden blue
5. Mark 5 gone abit ott with the design and couldnt stop dreawing it. but id still have one

Thats just my view anyway

i'm not into the whole 'new car' thing, but i do quite like the VXR range, the corsa in particular is a good looking car.......the only thing i'd say is i wouldn't get any VXR in blue, they're bloody everywhere!

Love VXR's and hope to own one soon.

I'll still always keep my Nova's though.

IMO astra and corsa vxr's look like they have had the chav treatment, clear rear lights, fake vents round the side repeaters, vents in rear bumper (corsa). Too many people chaving up there cars has made GM think that the customers wants this from new.:(:( mk 4 gsi looks way better imo .......maybe im bias as i have one.lol

i almost agree with the above mk1 is the best, mk 2 is nice, mk3 is ok, my least favourite is the mk4 but i do really like the new VXR, but thats only my view. i'd def have one

only thing id change my nova 4 is a Mk1 GTE or be greedy and have both.

one thing 4 certain its great we all have different tastes or things would be very boring

The best looking Astra I've ever seen was a mk2 GTE Champion with white 6-spoke Compomotive MO's on it. :D

I love the VXR's but you just can't help think a mk5 Golf GTI is that much more grown up looking.

VXR's would have to be in Silver for me.

Mk2 GTE will always be the definitive Vaux hot hatch IMO.

as stated vxr's are very very nice cars but they dont look any where near as good as a mk1 astra!!

04-04-09, 09:09 PM
I've got both :) Nova for the old skool messing about and the VXR makes a rapid comfortable daily driver....in black which no-one seems to notice, which is nice :thumb:

From working at Vauxhall and driven a fair few VXR's, i probably wouldnt own one reasons being that i dont like the way they feel to drive and around here every second car is an Astra or Corsa VXR and the majority of them are Arctic's or 'burg's. Most of them are actually driven by females though.

On the other hand i would have another MK2 GTE in a second!

MK4's are a little "blend in" but they certainly dont blend in with the handling :D V impressed for a late 90's production car.

not a fan of MK5's, and the VXR unfortunately falls foul of that too.

give me a mountune ST anyday (to borrow, not to fecking run myself)

at first i wasnt keen on them but to be fair they arent that bad there was an artical in total vaux a while ago where they shown a c20let white astra gte and a white vxr i think they liked the gte better. thing is with the new stuff they all look alike shape wise

dj_wudgey
05-04-09, 10:54 AM
thats true matey all new cars do look alike thats what sets the old school cars apart from the rest lol

You really can't beat old Vaux stuff because it's just timeless!

But things have to change and move on and astra vxr's are just pure porn!

tbh if i had the choice with my own money i wouldnt get a astra. Id go for a alfa romeo brera even tho its slower. i think they are pure porn :D

There was a time I wouldn't look at anything else other than a Vauxhall, the VXR range congered all, but a new Golf GTi, S3, Leon Cupra, 147 GTA really exite me now, all a little more grown up. Plus with the VAG there must be more development put in as it's used across 3 brands and each one can take it and develop it more. Still love the way a mk6 GTi cocks a wheel like the mk1
