1. look at insurance guides

2. ring up and get quotes, they wont mind its there job

3. 1.4 sr is insurance group 7. at 17 i wudnt unless u wana pay in a rough region of 1500 +

try a 1.0 or 1.2 (insurance group 3) or if you wana 1.3sr at insurance group 5, wotever u do shop around and remember at 17 it wont be cheap.
Mainly cause us 20+ yrs olds drove like arse holes and caused lots of ?s of claims at 17, DOH!

p.s. wiplash claims = higher insurance for every1 :(

Insurance is just silly these days for the young driver. I can't really believe it!

I started driving 4 years ago, but insurance on my 1.3sr on my own name was 700pound....and it went down from then on.

I don't think i'd have been able to afford it if the prices are like what they are now!

Beeing 21 helps a lot, like my valver insurance of 460pound, but for me under my dads name on a 1ltr polo, its still 400pounds like.

Looks like its only going to go ^^^ from here anyways.

Ok mate, i passed my test 3 months ago after learning for 4 months (straight after my 17th). I have a 1Litre and to insure it (live in Cambridge) the cheapest i could find was Norwich Union - ?1200. They did, however, give me a 48% rebate on the remaining premium when i completed Pass Plus so as i did it in December, i got a nice ol' cheque for ?400 :D

Think you should be looking into this, but probably sticking with your single litre! :o Joe

ste - ?267 for a 2L 16V!! who was that with?? How many years NCB haqve ya got? How old are ya?

I've just been quoted ?600 fully comp with Liverpool Victoria for my 2L 8V Nova, which i thought was very good at 24, with only 2 yrs No Claims!! considering i was paying more than twice that last year with Adrain Flux

rob.......

so u telling me from a 1.4sr to a 2.0 16v is just ?168 more per year thats ?15 more a month. FOR A 18 year old! it that was the case no one would buy gsi's or gte's as there group 10+.

if i take peugeot 205 mi16 conversion for example from a 1.9gti to a 2.0 16v is ?700 more for a 20 year old with 2 years no claims, it rises to group 15.

so a 2.0 16v nova must be about group 8 ?? is that what ur saying rob?

lee - tu power all the way! 115bhp @ wheels

Yes ferret I am.

Apparently the insurance for a 16V is cheaper in an SR shell than it is in a GSi/GTE shell.

But my quote was just under ?1700..and yes im 18 now......but I will be insuring it after my B'day in August. So its gonna be even cheaper.

Dont forget the donor car counts for most of it too!

Using a 2L engine from a Cavalier will be MUCH cheaper than an astra or calibra etc! NO need to explain y! And you are then grouped by the donor car! Not by a random fact! Could b any group by the donor car therefore!
