he might be getting a saxo vtr 'cheap' to sell on. the 5th & reverse gears don't select. can I have serious advice on whether its a linkage thing or its a tatered box thankyou.

ive got one stuck outside my house with the same problem lol,the boxes in them dont like abuse non to much ,but you could be lucky it might just be one of the 3 linkage rods slightly bent.

there is always going to be a market for a 1600 sporty hatch, cos there will always be some lad who still hasn't flown the nest & still has spare cash to spend.

astras are 'grown up ' cars

mowgli, i had this issue on a 106 1.5 d i had, the linkages were worn out. prob was i fixed them with new nylon sockets, and 3 weeks later it was back, this time it was the selectors inside the box, and its synchros.... new gearbox time. it can be either is the general cocensus. check the easy thing first then kick the box in the ass. if the box is gone it needs to be a 1400mpi or 1600 box, as the rest are different.

i had a vtr and the linkages are terrible, i had loads of play and changing gear was like stirring porrage but it never stoped me selecting gears it was the gear box that let go in mine (twice). they don't like being driven hard!

my mrs got a vtr n its on it 3rd gearbox now 2 sort the problem i used a 106 diesel box
