E16SE temperature gauge in the red

Ive wired my e16se engine up into my 1.2. Right i was told i should connect the blue wire from the engines wiring loom to the blue wire that goes to the dials for the coolant temp. The problem is even when the engines could when i turn the key just so the lights come on the dashboard it goes straight to red. How do i stop it doing this surely someone else has had this problem? thanks

Sounds like its earthing out, i guess you did acualy cut the orignal wire and throw it away or tape it up?

what i did was just connect the wire from the engine loom into the existing one for the clocks. so i still have the existing wire going to the coolant temp sensor for the clocks then the other blue wire is for the coolant temp sensor for the ECU. Nothings earthing out, its all taped up right.

disconect the coolant sensor side and see if it still reads full if not the sensor is buggered.
