Bloody police van was hiding around the bend in Shiplake, got me doing 41mph in a 30mph zone.

Had to do the form this mornining stating I was the driver....I hope they don't ban me.... a fine and points would'nt be so bad but my insurance would rocket....I hope they give me the choice of that awareness course.

Damn....:(

How do you know it was 41mph? Thought they only told you the speed after you said who was driving.

I got 3 points & £60 fine for 42mph in a 30. There wasn't a noticeable increase in my insurance premium.

I got a letter from the Thames Valley Police this morning, I had to say I was the driver, sign and send it back, just awaiting the outcome.

I hope they give me the choice of that awareness course.

My uncle got caught speeding for the first time in his 30 years of driving. They offered the awareness course as it was his first but the course costs 90quid IIRC.

Better then points and a fine though

Nothing to do with first offence its just to do with % of the limit youve broken.

aye - its a sliding scale depending on how may mph you were over the speed limit for the area - you'll get a statutory 3 pts and a fixed penalty fine.

Make sure you tell your insurance company once you get your license back (you have to sent the paper bit away so they can update the conviction on to it) - it'll impact your premium a tad but if you dont it could void your policy (they wont/shouldnt add it on until your next renewal).

There seems to a nationwide campaign just now - I've seen more police hiding in vans, holding speed guns and hanging about on bikes in the last 2 weeks than ion my entire driving life on British roads!

Before i was born my dad got caught speeding back home from Wales. My mum was asleep with her head in his lap so when they stopped driving she sat up. Of course the policeman thought they were having a bit of fun! When my dad wound down the window the policeman said "Feels better the faster you go doesnt it!"
lol lol lol

Getting caught speeding is now just what happens. EVERYONE speeds even if it's just a little bit. I seem to be keeping a steady 6 points on my licence. 3 come off and then I get caught again and 3 go back on.

However last time I was caught I decided to keep to the speed limit for a month. The ammount of people you piss off is unbelievable, esp when you have a cue of traffic behind you when you go in to twisty lanes with a 60mph limit and you lose them after holding the buggers up for ages on a 30mph straight piece of road. I also got 70 miles more out of a tank of fuel. However it was mostly embarrising and boring.

Were you doing it sideways? Pretty sure that's within the range to be offered a speed awareness course if it's a first time offence, they obviously didn't like you lol

I think its down to how they feel on the day, and if it goes to court how you play it..;) I got caught doing 111mph an the m/way back in 2004.....6 points and £450 fine. Others have been banned.

napalm_27
30-03-09, 12:06 PM
on the points comeing off the licence side of things
do you have to tell the insurence you had them as mine come off next year i think
i.e putting them on with the endorsements like i am now

and yes it is one of those how they feel on the day situations with courts and judges etc.
i was a silly boy a few years back and got in a rite mare and so on and so forth got in a chase stopped in the end missed court 6 times without even knowing there was even a second court date
went to court and got 6 points and £150 fine i was one lucky mo fo that day

and honestly its not worth it at all

burgo
30-03-09, 12:15 PM
its because i ignored it and it went to court lol was suposed to be 3poimts and 60 quid but instead i got 5 points and £211

MK999
30-03-09, 12:24 PM
Still seems a bit harsh, was that for the original speeding offence or the failure to provide information thing because you ignored it?

I got snapped a couple weeks ago by a scamera van in the clearest, quietest 30 zone ever, about 200m away from a national speed limit, was not impressed at all. Still waiting for my FPN back, and not liking these horror stories of people getting loads of points for not much over the limit lol Mine was only 37 in a 30 though, hoping for the speed awareness thing

Pistol Pete
30-03-09, 12:25 PM
Points are valid for 4 years, you have to declare them for insurance for 5. You can pay to have them removed (after the time has passed) but, IMO, i dont see the point. My insurance co. didnt really pay much attention to any of my previous ( had 12 at one point!) as i think soooo many people have points these days.

MK999
30-03-09, 12:28 PM
Good reason to get rid of them is if you get pulled over and have to hand in your license, they aren't gonna take kindly to a history of speeding offences. I wouldn't want to give them an excuse to hit you as hard as they can!

joeSRI
30-03-09, 12:30 PM
If you pay to have them removed, do you still have to tell the insurance co. that you had them?

No. 5 years for insurance after that, your clean.

I got my 6 points for 111mph on the m/way AFTER...ok here goes, 3 CD10 (accident related, my fault. These had expired but still showing on my license IIRC) 3 SP30 and another 3 SP30 days before my motorway conviction. So IMO they didnt take previous into account.

MK999
30-03-09, 12:41 PM
Yeah they shouldn't really consider it I guess, but if it's a copper at the side of the road trying to decide between believing you really didn't realise it was a 30 and letting you off with a polite warning, and handing you 3 points and a fine. I'd say it was worth the £12 or whatever it is to get them taken off.

My step brother must be the luckiest little scrote in the Country.

Caught doing 103mph on a 60mph zone in his Type whoRe Integra, 5 points and a €350 fine. The evening of the court case he was so delighted he got caught at 102mph in a 60mph zone (seriously, you couldnt make it up), €400 fine and a further 3 points. WTF? Needless to say the Integgra has been sold.

if the van was hiding isnt that intrapment? i thought you have to be able to see them from so many hundreds of yards. i would go and see your solicitor see if that is correct. im not to sure on the laws in england.

Annie
31-03-09, 11:16 AM
Maybe, Im not too sure....Shiplake is full of bends, no straight road at all, so I did not see it untill I was past it. Solicitor would cost more then the fine...i'll just pay it.

keithrg
31-03-09, 12:57 PM
£12 to remove points. Unless you still have the old paper license only. Then you have to pay extra for photo's and new license, which oh has to be renewed every 10 years. at your expense. Points can stay on it.

if you earn under so much a week/month you can still get legal aid. its better than points i think, you dont want them to build up and get banned.

Stuart

iirc Legal aid was cancelled for speeding convictions since every fecker was using it to try and worm their way out of doing wrong

i was caught doing 118 on the A9 and was arrested, that was a straight ban but i consulted my lawyer and turned out the speed gun had not been callibrated & they spelt my second name wrong, so i got let off the hook and im still driving with 0 points on my licence. do the crime fook the fine!

yeah but well worth keeping my licence and having to pay a healthy fine. i need my licence through my work or end up being sacked. it really depends on how much you want to keep your licence.

for 3 points and £60, its not really worth lots of cocking about... unless you are already on 9 of course lol

Hey,

Looks like you guys are all speed demons. lol

Got the responce letter through Friday....
2 options - The course @ £89 and 2 hours in Crowthorne, followed by 5 learning modules, which I do at home/work
Or
£60 fine and 3-6 points......

Being I am 4 months short of driving for 2 years, I have taken the course, just in case they give me 6 points, they can then take my licence, as well I think.

£89 is much cheaper then re-doing that theory and practical, plus I'll get the day off work!

So you'd rather pay £30 less than not have a criminal record that you have to declare when applying for jobs, insurance etc?

Down to you I guess, if I get caught again do you want £30 to declare yourself as driver? lol
