and what age did you have them?

i'm 26 and i'm not even thinking about having one of the little poo machines yet! three of my mates have recently became mums/dads and they're all younger than me, i couldn't think of anything worse lol

Martin and I dont have any yet because we're both only 21, live at home with our parents and at uni full time so defo not right time. But after 3 years together and my brother and step-brother with kids on the way i can defo say im broody lol

Me too Burgo! No disrespect to people who have kids young but I love that I was the brainy geek getting bullied by the popular tarts. Now when im walking through town to uni I see them all waddling along pushing their kids. Makes me feel warm inside :)

Nova_Tek

Im married and 25 but kids are not on the list just yet. A few more years for sure. Need to get stuff sorted, get finances in order, finish the Nova and want to live a little before kids happen. Kids need a lot of care and attention and if you're life isn't in order then it's not the perfect time to raise children.

My views.

No kids here. Well not that i know of lol I'm 26, and have thought "hmmm, maybe before i'm 30" but then i want to get to the 'ring and do the weston beach race before i'm 30 aswell. The misses (shes 22) has wanted kids since forever. She is about to become an aunty...twice in the space of 4 weeks!!! Also alot of my mates are now parents. I feel like the odd one out.

absolutely right tbh, i should have sorted myself out but just didnt  cant explain it really. left school with nothing, didnt work and lived with my parents. now i am doing an apprenticeship, work part time as well and live in a 2 bed house with my fiancee. baby wasnt planned but we decided it was what we wanted. i do agree with what people are saying about some people though. a neighbour of mine recently had a disabled child and was excited about the extra benefits he would get! sick

wow, i can see this being a good thread!

married at 25?

Nothing wrong with that mate, all depends on the mentality and the maturity of the people getting married. I was with my girlfriend for 5 years before I got married in summer.

There are certain advantages of getting married a bit younger then usual. I have a few mates that are a fair bit older than me, it doesnt mean that it will last just coz you're older.

My wife is 22 ;)

I give up my £30k a year job to look after my wife as she needs a double lung transplant and will quite possibly die soon if she doesn't get it. I had a job since leaving school and was never on the dole. I've paid my taxes all my working life and now I get less money to live on than a f***ing smack head:roll:

I was married at 18, first kid at 19 and second child at 21, we were both young, we knew we loved each other and that we wanted children.
We never really struggled financially and looking back now I would do the same again, why?, I'm now 44 and both the kids have grown up and moved out, so now it's our time.
My brother is 43 and has just had his last, (he says), by the time this child is 17, my brother will be 60! and looking to put his feet up, not listening to some spotty youth mouthing off because his room isn't tidylol
I feel that I can just about understand youngsters nowadays, it wasn't that long ago I was one myself, but at 60 I don't think my brother will.

Yet another teenage set of parents. Whats good about that? That is my opinion. Why be in a rush to have kids when in essence you are still a kid???? Thats what i am getting at.

tom reid
27-03-09, 07:48 PM
I think I know where pete58 is coming from, chavy young parents, living off the dole, etc.
But he should realise that not all young peolple make 'mistakes', there are plenty of teenagers who are more mature than their peers, hard working and who choose to start a family, if we all waited until we could financially afford kids, most of us would'nt be herelol

Pistol Pete
27-03-09, 07:51 PM
I'm not saying all young parents are chavy scalywags, some are, but it does annoy me that they "think thier ready". Yes if we all waited until we were ready it might not happen, but be sure that you are ready, job, roof over your head etc. At the end of the day they are the future generations and they will do what they see/think is "right".

So what if they teenage.18 is the age when you turn an ADULT dont forget.
Whats good about that you ask? If they are happy and its what they want, then that is Good, thats what.
Not everybody plans to have children early, sometimes it just happens (Andy now awaits comments of "Well they should be more careful then")
But it doesnt always work like that.

There is a lot that do it as a career these days. Its sad but very true.

tom reid
27-03-09, 08:01 PM
I actually agree with you on some of your points Pete, however, most teenagers think they are mature enough to do almost anything, the trouble is that when they realise that being in love and with children to support, is hard work, they run away, leaving the state to pick up the pieces.
But not all teenagers are like that, in fact in some cases, even folk in their 20's are'nt mature enough to raise a family, and if like you they choose to leave it till later, then fine.

all i'm going to say is when i was 18/19, i thought i was a 'man' (as someone put it) all grown up and mature,... i wasn't!

18 - 25 are the best years of your life, you have your own money, freedom to go out, experiment with drugs and alcohol and a never ending supply of fit women to have sex with, why anyone would want to give that up for a baby at such a young age is beyond me! i think one day you'll regret it......not having the kids, just having them at such a young age.

Actually I dont agree with you but im not going to neg rep you :thumb:

Thats not what that age bracket is about for me at all! Yes its a time to enjoy myself and hang with my mates but experimenting with drugs? No thanks!!! I detest drugs and anyone that uses or deals them! Anyone that deals drugs should die a painful death!

I dont want a baby at my age like i said but if it happens it happens imo.

I think having a child young can be beneficial for women especially. Have your kids at 18, your 24 by the time their in school and then can start a career. If you start a career first you can be less likely to get jobs because employees are scared to employ you in case you get preggers. Or if you do then you drop out of work for a year or two, come back and have to start at the bottom again!

im 25 and my first boy was born when i was 18 and my second when i was 24. i was still a kid when my oldest was born so it was quite hard as you only had so much time to grow up your self before the young one arrived.

Blimey there are some other "more mature" members on here - thought I was the last of the dinosaurs!
Well weighing at very nearly 50 and having 3 kids (27,25 &22) and been around the block a bit, bought the T shirt and kept it long enough for it to have come back into fashion ...twice! lol I reckon that there is "no right time" to have kids. For most decent hard working peeps having kids young really doesn't matter - its a massive challenge at anytime. It can be the making of some and screw things up for others who are never really going to cope or be a good parent come whatever time they have kids.

With the benefit of hindsight I can honestly say I am glad I had my kids young(ish) -21 for my first. Ok it was tough at first career wise but it gave me the kick up the **** I needed to grow up. Once you have the responsibilty you quickly realise that your life wasn't quite so meaningful and great as you thought. There's no way of knowing what it is like until you try it. Having kids young is good cos its bloody hard work and if you are young you can cope better. Plus if you are young you have a more equal relationship with them as they grow.

Finally I know childless couples/peeps of my age and as they grow older you can defo see the regrets building. They gained earlier with wealth etc but now they miss out on the beneifts of family - its a major part of the meaning of life. They sort of have everything but nothing - what exactly have they achieved? For all those who say "never" or "not now" you dont really know what you are talking about cos you only know half the story;)

Some valid points CP and I also agree with what Pete 58 is also saying.

There seems to be a few 'teenage' parents on PNG but not the typical teenaged parents we are thinking about. I have to give you guys some respek yo! as it can be difficult as some people will no doubt try stereotyping becasue you have had kids young.

Like I said before it all depends on maturity. My wifes cousin got married at 19 after she felt this guy was the 'one' couldn't see herself with any one else ya di yada blah blah etc I felt she was too immature and not in the correct mind set to get married as she still obviously wanted to live her youth, go out, party, mingle etc (not a bad person a lovely girl infact but not yet over her teenage ways). She got married and had a kid but has broken up 4 times, had a formal divorce, not earning much cash. Now she is back with her ex, trying to work it out. Her son who is a cute kid has behavioral problems and I put this down to parenting purely becuase she, I feel, is still young and a kid herself even though now she is 22.

So there are advantages and disadvantages of having kids young, if your a mature about the situation then it can be a wonderful thing.

Yes and no, if she is really good in bed you would want more. so a fake name and your number. if something happens a new number is only a sim card away ;)

I plan on investing in a "pub phone" a phone with a differant number that i only use when going out, no need for a new number then. lol

Luckily for me Ive never had an alcoholic in my family so its not something i have to deal with. But no i dont drink, I dont like what is does to people.

NO-ONE can change my opinion of drug dealers! They are all scum! And if anyone on here is a drug dealer then I think your scum! Nuff said

Not looking to venture off topic, but why do you feel its the dealers fault? Did they pin your step brother down and force them on him. NO. If people didnt have a need for drug abuse in the first place there would be no need for dealers. If we didnt have a need for petrol, there wouldnt be petol stations....see where i'm going? Supply and demand.

Futurama has the asnwer for dealers, I saw an episode which had a crack vending machine. Genius. lol

I agree with Petay, I don't have a major problem with dealers as I have no association with them personally. If people weren't reliant on the evil they peddle then as he says there would be no need for them.

I know what you mean. A close friend is studying to be a GP and really wants kids but knows to have a couple of years out would put her too far behind the game.

Im 29 and have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I'd have probably waited a few years in an ideal world but the wife is nearly 12 year older than me  so after we got married we started trying for the first (9 months and 1 day after the wedding the first was born!). We wanted two and didn't want her getting too old to make it risky.

To be honest I wouldn't have minded waiting a few years, but my missus is REALLY good to me. She knows I sort of sacrificed a bit with having kids a bit early so she lets me get away with a fair bit (pub, Nova, etc).

I'm a really lucky guy

Its a good comment tho, if only the minority of teenage parents lived by that then they would stop giving a bad 'name' to the many brilliant teenage parents..

Ps I'm 22 with 0 kids and no plans to have any until 29ish, just hope the missus agrees!!lol

^^^ no offence dude but thats kinda the point. it shouldnt be having kids that makes you grow up and get yourself sorted. imo you should have already done this before even thinking about kids

but its not always a conscience decision to have them though is it! and when you do find out your having a kiddy without prior planning, getting your life on track couldn't be a better result really..
..ahh didnt plan for this one, f it, ill still drop that 2lt in the nova lol
