hey peeps

i was wondering how did everyone get into nova's

is there a story to come with ya first nova.

ill start
i hated the car befor i bought it and thought it was some heap of poo and insisted i woudl never buy it. my mum worked for the first owner an old couple. sold it to my brother, who sold it to my best mate and then it was around at the right time i guess and for the right money so i had it.

i was 16 and seen the jamaican yellow 1.3sr buying guide in max power or something and thought i ll have one of these one day, then 2 years later a mate that stayed along the road worked at reg vardy and it was a trade in.it was a white 1.3sr on an f reg. he drove it for 6 months and i bought it off him before i even had a licence and it was in great condition and totally standard :thumb:

Surely I have the best story!? lol

Mine was given to me by aunt as my cousin bought her a cora c. It was a 1.0 and I thrashed the ar$e off it for four years without any problems. Then when it failed its mot on rust I sold it on ebay for £100 to a couple that wanted it for the mongol rally.

Needless to say it went all the way to mongolia with just a flat tyre letting its reputation down. Whereas jack osbourne who was also on the rally bought a fiat panda (I'm sure you can see where i'm going with this!) and it was a complete failure!

Just a couple of pics of gabby:

My first Nova, started out as my daughters, her BF bought it for her, it was a shed, they asked for my help in fixing it up, so....early 04 it started.
I bought new complete upper front panel, wings, bonnet, rear wheel arch panels, replacment doors, tailgate and had started to weld /repair almost every area of the car, by this time the costs were mounting, about 300 quid. the daughter and bf split up having not contributed to the car in any way, he turned up this day to take the car away thinking that as he'd bought it for her, it was his car. I'd been keeping a close tab on costs and asked him to wait two minutes, I prepared his "bill" and he was somewhat shocked when i presented him with it, parts and labour came to over 500 quid, I knew he couldn't pay that amount, but I had spent my cash and had worked on the car for approx 20 hours, the car stayed put. the police turn up, asking why I was not let the bf have his car back, I showed them the "bill', with receipts for the new parts and they left saying "it's a civil matter, sorry to bother you"
The car got finished with almost 400 hours labour and gave up on the costs.
the car went on the road in Feb of 08
Every area of the car was renewed/refurbished, by the time it was finished, the daughter had lost interest in Nova's.lol
The car was sold last week.

After putting up with a sh!tter of a Fiat Uno for a first car to get the magic 1 year NCB (Yes! Back then it was the done thing to have a turd as a first car rather than buy a nice one straight off!), I bought my sisters J reg 1.2 in October 2000.

Got ripped off for it, there was a H reg 1.4SR for sale down the road for £850, but as that was "older" it was clearly inferior  so my parents gave my inheritance to my sister and I ended up with her Nova. TBH I didn't particularly want it as I always thought Novas were boy racer cars, but as it was a Mk2 it was a huge step up from the Fiat - this is why I hate the Mk1 interior, as it reminds me of the italian stallion. I still remember the best feature was having two windscreen wipers instead of one (again, this is why I hate single wiper conversions... in fact, a lot of my hate for certain mods/styling is down to the Fiat lol).

I made my first mod even before the car was officially mine. Halfords lazer blue headlamp bulbs lol

...after that, the car got written off, rebuilt, kitted, ranted, sold for an extortionate fee and replaced with a saloon :D

i inherited my 1.0 carmine red A reg 2 door saloon from my parents, and didnt realy know much about nova's (i was a supercar petrol head, when it came to the mundane and ordinary i didnt have a clue!) i fell in love with it because of its brutal simplicity, and when my sister borrowed it and had a bump i didnt speak to he fro a month. it ended up on the scrap heap once i realised it wasnt worth saving and a £50 four door 1.3 saloon turned up at work as a trade in. the moor door was ace, but it'll never beat A930 KFV...

I had always been into novas because when I was a kid my mother had a 2 door saloon and so did my uncle.
My first nova was a year after passing my test (15 years ago) as I couldn't afford a car at the time :(

I eventually bought the ex girlfriends Nova for £500 1.0L, she had spent about £1000 on just getting it fixed as well. lol
I hated the dodgy driving position at first but eventually got use to it. I think I now have a twisted spine from driving Novas. lol

The reason for the saloon arch wasn't for getting it lower like Olly trackdaynova, it's because I crashed it in the first week of owning it driving like a typical 18 year old (hard). The body shop that I took it too didn't realise (neither did I) that they had different wings. lol

I bought G146 RRJ about 5 weeks after passing my test in December 1997, it was a clean standard 1.3SR in silver for £3,100.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/rubachuk/nova4.jpg

I put some alloys, K&N and Janspeed exhaust on it, love that sound. If anyone has a mild steel Janspeed system for a 1.3SR, I WANT IT!!!

I sold it after 2 years to a lad a played rugby with for £1400. I'd been offered £400 as a px againt the 5 Turbo I moved on to.

Then last year a bought this:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/rubachuk/IMGP2267.jpg

Almost exactly the same, just a shade out in colour. Now I'm doing all the things I wanted to but couldn't afford when I was 17 :D

Sad? Maybe

I got my first nova in 2001 when i was 17 a 1.2 merit white, it was a mk1 when i bought it but i rebuilt it and put a mk2 front end on it. Had it for a couple of years never one problem with it, then i sold to a lad who lives near me for 100 quid he said he was going to make it into a show car:roll: but he never did. He ended up giving it to this scrap guy and he cut the roof of and used it as a skiplol

i never liked them until i met my best mate when i was 18/19. he LOVES novas, and then he lent me his sometimes and it was just so ace to drive. i then wrote it off lol bought it off him as spares and paid him some more money cos i wrecked his pride and joy. i then bought another nova few months later, best weekend of my life and then the gearbox failed the day after i bought it. it wasnt until a year or two later when i bought my first proper nova, next thing i knew i had 4 of them and have loved them ever since :(

Always been a fan, used to buy all the mags with A16V TB, Bretts (then) Nova etc. I wanted a black GSi on 17" MIM Raffinos lol. When 14/15 there was a guy that used to drop his under age GF off at school in his J plate black GSi on Alessio's. This made him God lol.

I never bought any of my own but succesfuly turned two mates from haters into owners lol. Then I started doing ever more major things to my main car so I was reliant on 'runarounds' as my main/only car TBH. My TD Astra had just given up the ghost and sick of driving sh1tters I found H707 DTN on eBay locally. It had 3 days left and bids were just under £100. Went to see it and got him to end early for £120 :D Not bad for a 100% original 14 SR that had been SORNed for over 3 years in a garage.

My first Nova! Won't be the last though. I am determined to get a nice 13 SR / GTE.

I sold that after about a year as another mate wanted it and I made a tidy profit and went back to a dirty derv for all those veg oil fuelled car part road trips lol

I was given my old SR by my mum, she had bought if off my brother, i used it for about a year, it failed its mot and i took a screwdriver to it, its now locked up in a garage untill i can afford to repair it.

Ever since then ive bought lots of different cars, mainly **** french things. Untill just over a year ago i bought the mk1 as a project, then bought my current mk2 and sold the mk1.

i bought mine as a trade in from my old work. id bought a **** pug 106 derv off my ex boss for 500, and it died within 3 months. i went into work one sat morning and an old fella had traded a snot green 4dr mk2 spin (miami blue) in against a yaris. he was chatting bout it and said he'd had it from new, and it had fsh, but 1 week of t+t. i blagged it for £50 off the sales manager, as he couldnt even get the auction to take it. i just saw it as cheap wheels. i spent £60 on the mot and tqxed it. had it for a year, battered it to hell and fell in love with it. after getting a raise, i decided to buy my corsa c. 3 days before the nova became my 2nd car (project) i had a blow out on a roundabout. i hit the barriers and killed the osf corner. it was fixable, but at the time the rents were moaning, so i scrapped it. it still had 8months test on it ffs. it was the best car i had, i did 23k miles in it in 5 months and it never missed a beat. r.i.p k493pag.

My story goes back a long while too.

My mum, after passing her driving test back in the early 90's, wanted a car as my dads Cav SRi was a bit large for her. So we all went to the local auctions to find a nice small car. I remember looking at s*it loadsa cars and my mum couldnt make her mind up.

She pointed out this little gold Nova 1.2 and she liked it over all the other small cars there. She must have loved the Snowplough lol I know I thought it looked 'wicked'. I was 10 btw

So the car went off to auction and I remember standing next to my dad as he bid. Some dude kept upping the bid and my dad was muttering a few choice words. :)

We won the bid @ £1500 for a 1985 1.2 Merit back in 1993/94 IIRC.

A few days later I woke up super early to go with my dad to pick up the car from the auctions lol.

My mum drove it for a few years but once she had more experience, she started driving my dads SRi more often and found the extra refienment, especially the power steering to be wonderful. In the end the Nova was parked up on our drive for many years and unfortunately my parents didnt bother to cover her up in the least. We had garage but that was used by the Cav.

My dad said 'We have to sell the Nova as its wasting away doing nothing 'or you can have it'. I thought about it as I didnt really know much about the Nova but said 'OK'. I was 15 at the time.

From there on started the work lol I managed to start her up as after sitting outside for 4 years she had trouble starting. I managed to persuade everyone to get it in the garage. Thats when I staretd learing about body repair as being outside didnt help with the rust situation and to this day I strongly feel that if it had been in storage, I wouldnt have spent cash fixing the body and nor would it need a respray. Rust in all the usual areas.

Anyway, I worked on it for years till I passed my test and it looked absolutly MINT as I had cleaned it like crazy, you could eat your dinner off the engine it was that bling.

I started to look at wheels, ICE, suspension etc and made a wish list which I very slowly completed. Obviously I was still at school tryna find a job so these things waited.

All in all its been in the family for 15 years, the first car and only car I have owned and even if I became stinking rich I will still have it and drive it. I'd probably take it back to bare metal and do stuff that I simply can't afford now but still I'd keep it.

It only needs minor bodywork a respray and the LET and it will be done (only) lol .

Damn that's brought back some memories.

My dad said 'We have to sell the Nova as its wasting away doing nothing' I didnt really say anything but he then said 'or you can have it'.

Did your dad sell your memories instead of the car then?

I hated Novas when is was younger..... because everyone one else did at my school lol.
One day however my friend got picked up outside the school gates in a white MK1 Sport. It had blue, red and yellow stripes over the bonnet and it went full chat down the school lane. Never heard anything else like it!!!

Wanted one ever since.

Strangely enough when I got my new tyres put on by a mobile mechanic it turned out to be the same bloke (10 years on , give or take)
He said he ended up buying 2 nova sports. 1 was his, 1 was for his girlfriend and he also had a mate with one.

He has a photo with 5 nova sports at my local pub back in the 90’s too. Well the pub got knocked down about 5 years ago now but…

He said he still owns his one but it needs a full restoration as its turning green , but he wouldn’t sell it to me when I offered to buy it ! I'l try and get a copy of that photo and scan it in :thumb:

Liked them ever since my dad started rallying them, then we got a mk1 1.3sr with snowplough front, spotlights, fido dido rear sticker, clio RSI wheels :D i loved it, i spent most of my childhood sitting in it pertending to drive lol So then i turned 16 and said IM GETTING A CAR, I WANT A NOVA, so got some cash together and bought my first nova, it may be rusty but ill never regret buying it, I still love just sitting looking at it and saying "thats mine, and its a nova" :Dlol

There was always one in my family really

My uncle's had 3, my dad had 3 and my gran had 1 - My dad also told me he turned down the chance of an original Nova Sport (hence my obesession with them - and I want one!)

I always liked them and it always had to be a Mk2 Nova SR for some reason due to my dad and gran having a Nova Flair at the same time (lower spec Nova SR)

It's went from since I was a wee boy all the way up to the present day really lol

My first Nova was a waste of space, more rust the anything, never got it on the road, DVLA STOLE IT!!
Real story is my 2nd one, My first road legal car, passed my test, next day went looking for a car (mission concidering i didnt have much money and it was a sunday!) Found a paper ad, went to see it and she was faded, had a knackered front bumper and the grill was held on my screws........ but the ol girl had low mileage (which the guy warenteed and told me he had history which never turned up!!) a heart beat to die for and was mint inside! Bargain at 400 notes !
Now she got new bumper & grill, has a stronger heart beat and i intend to keep her so long as she keeps living!

After i passed my test in 2005, i bought a cheapy 1.1 fiesta. Thought it was great, nippy and fun to drive lol

Came to mot time about 3 weeks later when it failed on rust. I decided to get it through the mot (working in a vaux garage) and sell it and get somthing newer like a corsa b. I was dead set on a 1.4 corsa sport. I had a week off as holiday, when i got back my sales manager said ive got a suprise for you, ive found you a car. So go round the back to find a white nova snap had been traded in.

One lady owner from new, a genuine 6k on the clock (had only done 5 miles since previous mot a year before). Was immaculate, bought it for £400 not really wanted it. I got it home, stripped the dodgy green stickers off it, debadged the back before i did anything else. From then it got a set of lowering springs and i was hooked!

I sold it in 2007 with 23k on the clocks wanting an astra gte. Had the astra about 5 months before wanting another nova, so decided i would build my turbo one. Regretted selling it ever since:(

I needed a cheap car to insure so I could drive my 730i 'with the owners permission' after my £70 1.7 Volvo 340 had died after 1 year of abuse. For the princely sum of £400 I scored my mums mint 1.2 5 door which she'd had for 5 years on 48k. The BMW went after a year and the Nova stayed on for another 2 as my sole car. At first I didn't rate it, then I started to 'get' front wheel drive having only driven rwd. I added a few bits enjoyed it throughly and then sold it to a mate for his girlfriend to learn in. It apparently did a stint in London, then ended up in the hands of another mate who's had it for over a year. It recently spilled its fuel so they sold it and Joycey on here owns it now!

My friends mum had a mk1 lazor blue sr, with opening rear windows. Me and him both loved it, he was a year older than me so got a astra then got a mk2 nova sr. Had sh*te alloys and a really naff install. But i loved it!

The garage he worked at found me a blue 1.2 mk1. She was a bag. Every pannel had rust on. Doors full of filler. But i retrimmed all the boot carpet, and fitted big speakers in the foor doors, but i had to trim a lil metal out to do it and the door lost 99% of the strengh..lol

She was to far gone tho. Choped it in and got looking back a mint mk1 red sr.

My first Nova was my second car. It was a breeze blue SRi. 100% standard when i bought it. Over time i lowered it, fitted alloys, took the vinyl off it, laguna splitter, Clifford (after nobheads broke into it at college, stole my 4 week old Rockford fosgate sub) blah blah blah. Got it looking how i wanted then one night street racing (yes young and fooking stupid!) i binned it hard and wrote it off big time. I was gutted.

my first nova was the first car I drove on the day I passed my driving test in june 1986. it had belonged to my grandad, but he passed away & my gran didn't drive. the 1.2 carmine red merit hatch, b398 pjf had only 1600 miles & gran wouldn't sell it, but we had the use of it as long as we looked after it.
so, 20mins after passing my test, I was thrashing it down a huge hill (osbaston hollow) & made it read 100mph on the clock.. after a couple of years, she sold it to me for £2k, i'd offered her £3k but she wouldn't accept it. that car lived with me till 1993 when a cav punted it backwards up a lane .. I still miss that car..

My 1st Nova experience was a Brown mk1 1.2 - A113NHG - belonged to my then GF. Was as basic as basic got. Did a bit of body work on it - fixed the radio and did the rumpy pumpy game in the back at a 21st birthday party!

lol

That sort of got me hooked! Loved the shape of them - bought my 1st one after I passed my driving test and I've still got it! Rebuilt it into a GSi rep with a 1.4 engine then decided to rebuild it again but go a bit mental (see Ades Garage in the sig). Things are kind of on hold now until I move into my new garage in 3 weeks - CANNOT WAIT!

Also bought an SR last June and shes fab - done a fair bit to her but she needs a respray and tidying up - got her booked into the garage in a couple of weeks for a new carb and engine tune - think shes currently overfueling...

I always just loved them :)

In school I used to hang out with the older guys, skiving off and generally wasting my free education hanging around garages getting stoned and playing with cars. They all drove and Novas/ Cavalier SRis/ Astra GTEs were THE cars to have. I loved to get involved with everything going on and, being a northern lass, have never complained about getting my hands dirrrrty.

My ex used to get his Vaux carcases dragged away by two *extremely dodgy* blokes from the city. One day they called up offering a Nova for a tiny price, something we couldn't turn down. We went up and looked at it, and were very happy with what we saw! It was a 27k China Blue B reg base model with the interior and engine from a 1.4SR they'd scrapped recently (due to major rot).

So we got it back to his and left it on his drive for a year until I was old enough to drive :) During that time, I learnt loads (his dad was an amazing mechanic, I miss him sooo much ) and when it finally came time to drive the little bugger, I started to enjoy fiddling even more because I began to notice how things I did actually effected the way it drove etc. I miss my first car RIP lil' one!

lol Mines well boring compared.

I was looking for a mk3 Polo GT, but they were all sheds with high mileage and needed work. A mates Dad, who was a trader, came round with a red 1.2 nova flair and compared to what I had been looking at, it looked like a new car! Untill that point I hated Novas with a passion. It was 3 days before it had a new stereo, but that was all I was going to do....
Then I loss a wheel cap and thought I'd buy some alloy wheels instead, then it looked silly, so I lowered and fitted 2.0 16v brakes.... I think everyone can relate to that lol the rest is history :)

my mom had a mk1 corsa a SR (the foglight snowplough version with 'burberry' checkerd interieur), she bought it new in 83.

i'm born in 86, so i growed up in that red little thing. so from the time i could walk i always sad i want a corsa A when i grow up.
she went to the scrappy when i was about 16, didnt know how rare it was at the time, so the interiour and snowplough where still on it when the made a little package of her :( and i bought my 1st nova at 18, a black m2 joy 1.4i, before even passing my test. now turning 23 and had 3 of them.

i still have my first nova, she now turned into a china blue mk1 c20xe with a foglight snowplough.
