Depends on what your looking to get back from the car, and what budget youve realistically got.

I would have said big block XE everytime TBH, same price if not cheaper then its smaller brother, yet more power, easy as fook to get parts, just as easy to repair, well proven & well used in many marques!!

to be honest, when the corsa b was launched, & i was driving a new 1.2 on 145 tyres (rental car saturday job), that it was an absolute hoot, all 4 wheel drift & tyre squeal on the corners.... the whole point of a track day is to have fun... so why make a high powered monster if it is no fun??

napalm_27
24-03-09, 10:26 PM
you really cant be doing much right if youve blown 3 up

its not a hgv you cant put them back into first for more pulling power! lol

True though isnt it lol only reason I have a 1600 8v at the mo is a) prove that home built turbo conversions can be wickend & b) Im a tight kunt, Im not paying a premium price for a pair of "off the shelf" drive shafts lol lol

corsa-xe1
24-03-09, 10:28 PM
lol i think i will rebuild the xe!!

anyone have a spare coilpack head????

i just drive like a dick and use the limiter too much :(

i will say this before others
you do not belong here
or
behind the wheel of a vauxhall!

driving off the limiter doesnt make the car go faster
the only fast thing about it is the engine going bang!

Limiters there tho to stop you damaging it.
Service it and you shouldnt really have a prob. How offen do you change the oil?

Dar
24-03-09, 10:33 PM
Fit ARP rod bolts to the new engine and you should be fine.

bit of a waste in my opinion

mike, i've always had a nagging feeling that if you got inner cv joints of the same make for the big block & small block shafts, & then stripped them down, the inner splined collars would be interchangeable & then suddenly the whole 22 spline thing goes out the window & shafts get cheaper to modify.

to make a cheap rev limiter, drill a 12mm hole thru the floor under the accelerator & get a m12 x 100 set screw (bolt threaded all the way), 2 nuts & 2 washers, then adjust it so you can't make excessive throttle movements. long life engine for £1.50

corsa-xe1
24-03-09, 10:48 PM
lmao will bare that in mind!! thanks

Genius or do what I do and blame your (as in mine) parents, for creating someone who's too short to reach the pedals and I never "reach" the limiter lol

they used to factory fit them to lorries & call them governors..... my dad used to wind his on a bit... then proper speed limiters came along.

You can have plenty of fun on track with ANY of those engines tbh.
My old 120hp 1.6 16v was a right laugh on track and passed quite a few quicker cars!!!!!

Plus hitting the limiter wont destroy the engine, the limiter is a safe rev cut....
On track you are near the limiter with pretty much EVERY gear change!

But for power&torque vs cost, you cant beat a 2000 16v.

corsa-xe1
24-03-09, 10:59 PM
will just stick with the redtop then!!

i had a c14se track day car and that was fun, just need more power lol

i've battered engines off the limiter from cold, and seriously abused a fair few xe's and 8v 2.0's. i've never had an issue. i'd say whang a 20seh in it for a giggle whilst you build a decent xe. you'll be suprised matey....

Pistol Pete
25-03-09, 09:55 AM
Alot of trackday/fast road cars have XE's in them.....that should tell you something.

Sloth
25-03-09, 10:03 AM
yeah, thats as maybe, but theres cheaper alternatives, which can be fun. its not all about speed, a 20seh and f16cr in a nova is bloody quick. either that or an ecotec 2.0...

Stuart
25-03-09, 10:13 AM
Mowgli had it right about the 1.2 on skinny tyres :)

if you get out giggling like a child then the car is perfect

2.0 8v all the way lasted the test of time and i dont hear of meny going wrong plus thay are a bit lighter then the c20xe. so maybe a bit better handling with the right setup. then again trackdaynova's was Shi* hot in the vids i have seen. so like people have said at the end of the day it is up to you.
