Afternoon all,

As i now have an abundance of time, and I'll now be able to make PVS this year... I want to get hte nova sorted!!

Problem I face is, I have all the parts sitting there but I don;t have any insurance on the car to get it anywhere. I don't really want to go buying an A-Frame as i can't afford it atm, does anyone have one that I could borrow for a week? Beer tokens provided :)

Cheers

there illegal unless being recovered

if any wheel is touching the ground it has to have to have tax, mot, and be insured

and a trailer company now wont let you rent one unless you have grandpar rights, or have done the trailer test :)

i thought if it was being towed it was classed as a trailor ? ie doenst need anything except decent tyres

Thats poop... My bro rented a car trailer a month ago to collect a car, and they never asked for anything.

I wasn't sure with a-frames whether or not it had to have tax, mot or insurance. The nova has tax and mot just not insurance...

If its just lacking insurance then dayinsure it and drive it if its drivable, tow it if not?

The problem i face is, the car is a trck car and is heavily modified so can't use dayinsure. It was on a classic modified policy, with the added perks of trackday cover and 3rd party cover on other vehicles, wish is the most frustrating loss... I'll have to dayinsure my brothers fronterea so i can tow the nova.

I could use a trailor if somone has one of them?! Beer tokens also provided :)

If its thats the only option then i'll have too, trying to keep costs down. Going to cost me £30 for car insurance, then about £80 in fuel, the frontera drinks heavily. Ah well worth a poke...

Does you licence allow you to tow a car trailer?

Nothing on there says i can't... I don;t know when the law changed about needing a seperate test...

Its absolute crap! My brother towed a speed boat to southend today.

How can rent a trailer then? They never asked for anything last time...

Your have to take another test, get somone else to drive or not bother lol

You can legaly tow small trailers (up to a certain weight) depending on the cars usual towing weight.

My mates Pajero can tow 3.3 tons, but hes only allowed to tow about 1ton.

prior to 1997 you can tow a trailer but after this you need to take a trailer test (if bigger than one of them little boxy things) - I know as I cant tow my Nova when I move house in a few weeks.

HOWEVER - you can hire a flat bed "AA style" van - simply load the car on the back and off you go. I was quoted £50 for a full weekend.

What do the rental company care? Its your job to make sure you are driving in accordance with your licence, not theirs.

when i rang dvla they said it was ok as long as the trailer and car combined did not weigh more than the car pulling it but best just to ring dvla fella rules my have changed since then.

If your licence doesnt have B+E or BE on it you cant tow a trailer bigger than what you can get from halfords roughly, about 500kg's payload.

As for Ade's AA style truck idea, you'll need one based on a transit/master/sprinter van, anything bigger than that and you'll need to have C1 entitlement on your photocard.

Luckily for me if/when I get a track car I've got an artic licence, so bring on the trailers! (not found anywhere that'll hire out a 16-car transporter for a weekend though).
