View Full Version : brakes fcked??
hey, was driving the nova today and pressed the brake pedal in fully but not that hard. heard a crack. now the breaks are practically useless! when the brake is depressed there is a noise down at the passenger side footwell like an escaping air. any ideas?? is this gonna be easy to fix?!?!?
cheers euan.
sounds like your servo is buggered.
you just need a new servo really. Think i got 1 if you get desperate!!
is there any tests i can do to check this.
is the servo the thing in the engine bay (round)
how much do u want for it?
cheers

the brake pedal shouldnt go "fully in"
it should only move an inch or so
If you strip the carpet back underneath the dash in the passenger side footwell you will see where the brake pedal linkage goes into the servo. Get someone to operate it with the engine running and you will be able to hear/see more clearly whats happening. I agree with Dicko - its the servo. Get a Haynes manual - its got all the info you need on this.

you can test the servo by pumping the brakes hard a few times (4-5) with the engine off. Press the pedal a bit and then start the engine. If the servo is OK, the brake pedal should go down a bit.
if i can find the bastid you can have it for ?5 lol
cheers. i'll try this out 2morrow and give u all an update.

it defo sounds like a brake servo, both my novas have done the same thing, first time round i paid ?170 at a garage. this time round i paid ?10 at a scrapyard an did it meself lol
I know this is a bit off topic (kinda) but would you recommend putting the GSi discs onto my 1.2?
if so, would there be any problems with calipers or such like?
cheerz!
andyj they will bolt straight on.
and yes it is a bit off this topic :?
