monday if you want, the 13 months is a weird one, for some reason its only if you do it within 1 month of the M.o.t dexpiry date

You can test it now if you want, and get 12months.
OR if its within 30days of the expiry date (late may etc), then you'll get 13months mot.. So you could test it in May this year, and it'll get mot'd until June 2010

Also wot are the laws on sharp edges ect? As the archs are rusty and a bit hanging but somebody said to me that i could get away with putting duct tape on them?

I put duck tape on the escort and got away with it, but thats only if bits are sticking out from where they should be

I doubt it, would be the same as failing a VOSA roadside check.

No if it fails, thats it, you cant drive it on the road...
Unless going to another mot or for arranged repairs.

As the car is no longer roadworthy....

you can have an mot done at any time,
but if you want them to follow on and don't loose any time left
on last years ticket, you can get it mot'd a month, less one day early.

and if it passes on that day you will get a ticket that runs for allmost 13 months, but if it fails you are still legal because your old /last years ticket is still running.

ie this years ticket runs out 14th of june 2009

you could have that car tested from 15th of may 2009

if it passes on that day your ticket would say

"tested 15th of may 2009 runs out 14th of june 2010" 13 months

but if you took it in before the 15th of may and it passed you would only get a ticket for 12 months from that date.

does any of that make sence :wtf:

dont think so dude,

my mums vectra has no intention of passing its mot anytime soon, we took it to our local mot test station, and they said if it passes, we'll ave 13months, if it fails, she can legally continue driving it until the current mot runs out,

if the car has a valid mot test certificate, its legal to be on the road, simple as,

As above, if taken for an MOT within the 30days of expiry, and fails. It'll still have a valid MOT certificate (the one done the previous year) so still be road legal.

When that runs out, it'll need SORNing until fixed.

As for the tape, the above advise is correct, as long as it covers up any sharp edges you'll be fine.

If it fails, that mot is no longer valid as the car is no longer road worthy. If that was the case you could have a car fail with rotten chassis/knackered brakes etc etc, and the owner could then carry on driving it, and even if they got pulled by a VOSA van they would be ok because they still have an mot certificate.....
