Is it ok to remove this if there's still some fuel in the tank? Isn't there a rubber bit of pipe that goes between the neck and the tank that can be pinched shut with some molegrips to stop leaking? Or are there any other methods of doing this?

Cheers.

drain the tank. if you have efi, then take the feed pipe off & use the key switch to pump it out....if it is a carb model, undo the feed pipe at the carb end, pull it out under the rhs sill, suck it a little bit & it will siphon.

the rubber pipe you are on about is about 40mm & about 3" long it would be hard to clamp,

And if you did clamp it it would most likely split!

Its only a breather pipe, nothing will come out of it. But if its the original hose, it'll probably split when you try and remove it.

Also depending on how much fuels in the tank, you will loose fuel out of the side of the tank if you remove the filler pipe.

Jack the car up on the drivers side, so when you take the pipe off it shouldn't leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That pipe between tank & filler neck is NLS. Dont split it or cut it FFS!
