engines are a touch asthmatic. But other than that, the MK4 chassis is phenomenal for a "dull MOR production car" !!!!

I presume they will be pretty economical?

depends on the driving style.. My mate had a 1.7DTI and it did worse MPG than my 1.8 SRI lmao

Good car, I wouldnt worry about the Injection pump problems you hear about as 9 out of 10 times its the pump ecu that gives up and its cheap and easy to replace!!

There must have been something wrong with the dti as my uncle has one and its very good on the fuel!!

as said, its all in the way you drive it... treat it like a hire car then its going to be poor

Ive been offered a 2000 W ls model estate for £400. its a nice clean car, only problem is the ecu light comes on and it looses power. The owner has had it at Vaux and they diagnosed a EGR valve fault. Is it worth a gamble???

EDIT- just viewed the car, its a TD not a DTi, and it wouldnt start! lol

sounds like the pump or ecu matey, cormac the edu is £1200 from vaux, its inbuilt into the ppump and has the immobiliser built in. there is another separate ecu thats £300 mate. white 2lsr id be very carefull of it dude...

I can Buy the pump ecu from a local vauxhall parts company (new non genuine) for £100, which i consider cheap conpared to vauxhall prices, The 2L dti have the ecu inbuilt but the 1.7 doesnt!

Yes as cormac said its not the pumps that go down often its the ecu on the pump, can be changed in situ and cheaply with little hassle, people will try to charge you £1k for the job though lol.

I think the MK4 are **** but that my opinion.

I have an 03 plate, very good motor, more economical than a 1.9 tdi golf of same age!

I'd leave the vauxhall 1.7td well alone, however the 1.7dti isuzu engine is a cracker!
