View Full Version : GSI project K7 OVA
Hi
i've been going to do a project thread for months now,
but never got around to it. so here goes
my name is stu "7ova" and live in doncaster south yorkshire
i'm a mechanic and a mot tester
married with two children
when i passed my driving test many years ago my first car was a
red mk1 nova swing, loved it as everyone loves there first car
then had a few more nova's untill i bought a mk2 nova SX in black
only six months old and 3k on the clock it was great
no rust or rattles.
wish i had left it in a garage for the last 14 years or so, instead of
putting it in to a six foot ditch and then rolling it several times across a
farmers field
then had a few more nova's and then moved on to vw's and bmw's
but over the past couple of years i wanted to get a gsi as a project
and put it back as new lol
i bought my project first a k plate mistral grey gsi, got it off piston heads
from a lad in derbyshire who used it everyday and for track days.
does anyone recognise reg K449 LHW ? soon to be K7 OVA
over the last 16 months ive had three other nova's just to run around in
tidy up and sell on.
k reg flame red gsi, j reg silk violet gsi and a j reg flame red 1.2 nova flair
here's a few photos of the gsi and i will try and update thread as i do more work.

good work matey!! will look forward to seeing this out and about dude!!
thanks for coments leeboo and dj wudgey.
yes it is quite solid, as you can see from one of the photos the front cross member was starting to corrode slightly on valance and around offside
headlamp mounting.
so i thought i'd just change it all, rather than patching it up.
allso the front splash guards need some work. job for the weekend :D
thanks again
done some more welding today, got all the inner spash guards
welded up and solid, and a bit of stich welding here and there.
i'll get some photo's up later
got the welding photo's of splash guards up,
i had to make a couple of plates up and cut out any rusty metal, then finished cleaning up engine bay and got some red oxide primer and
grey primer on the bare metal.

welding where it can't be seen, and was needed.
not because of my standard of welding, before you say

Hi
i think its about time i updated my GSI project
i've not done much, but a little here and there all helps
the nova still up in the air and all the original underseal
has been removed :( boring long job.
and i've been cleaning, painting afew parts ready to rebuild
the back end.
the back axle i refurbed it, cleaned it back to bare metal, painted it
refurbed the back plates, poly bushes, stainless flexi brake hoses, new copper
brake pipes, new gm wheel cylinders, new handbrake cables and cable sliders.
afew stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers here and there.

I've just stained my pants looking threw this build thread ;)
More updates deffo needed so I can do it again please specially of the engine i've not seen a GSI engine that clean in a long time :thumb:
Why would you ever want to sell this Nova ? This is a car you should keep and pass on to your kids in your Will when you die imo
Not to mention the fact you have had loads of Novas before and there is a reason for this you love them so much and you know if you ever got shut of this one you would hate yourself for the rest of your life
You should look at Stu's SR aswell then lol
That the one he got off Simon ? Gray one ?
That's a minter, almost bought it before I got the Sport
Yeah it is, he's loving the grey lol,
actually this GSI is a rare car now, on the gsi poll I done there were only 2 grey ones and 16 silk violet making the silkies the most comon!
