Hi
i've been going to do a project thread for months now,
but never got around to it. so here goes
my name is stu "7ova" and live in doncaster south yorkshire
i'm a mechanic and a mot tester
married with two children

when i passed my driving test many years ago my first car was a
red mk1 nova swing, loved it as everyone loves there first car
then had a few more nova's untill i bought a mk2 nova SX in black
only six months old and 3k on the clock it was great
no rust or rattles.
wish i had left it in a garage for the last 14 years or so, instead of
putting it in to a six foot ditch and then rolling it several times across a
farmers field
then had a few more nova's and then moved on to vw's and bmw's

but over the past couple of years i wanted to get a gsi as a project
and put it back as new lol
i bought my project first a k plate mistral grey gsi, got it off piston heads
from a lad in derbyshire who used it everyday and for track days.
does anyone recognise reg K449 LHW ? soon to be K7 OVA

over the last 16 months ive had three other nova's just to run around in
tidy up and sell on.
k reg flame red gsi, j reg silk violet gsi and a j reg flame red 1.2 nova flair

here's a few photos of the gsi and i will try and update thread as i do more work.

thanks for coments leeboo and dj wudgey.

yes it is quite solid, as you can see from one of the photos the front cross member was starting to corrode slightly on valance and around offside
headlamp mounting.
so i thought i'd just change it all, rather than patching it up.
allso the front splash guards need some work. job for the weekend :D

thanks again

7ova
21-03-09, 03:54 PM

this week so far has gone backwards

first of i got the last rad hose on filled the system with anti freeze/water
(engine still hasn't been run yet)
went in for a drink, came back and saw the bottom drivers side corner of rad leaking  drained system and removed rad again
must have been the only part i've refitted that's not new
(it looked new when i removed it)

rang around all the ones local, they all wanted around £70 +vat
manged to find a firm in rotherham that could get a valeo one for
£40 including vat.
sorted, went through last night after work to pick it up
wrong rad

the man's on with getting me another for thursday night

so this week i haven't got much done to the old girl
photo's will follow soon :thumb:

Hi
i think its about time i updated my GSI project
i've not done much, but a little here and there all helps
the nova still up in the air and all the original underseal
has been removed :( boring long job.

and i've been cleaning, painting afew parts ready to rebuild
the back end.

the back axle i refurbed it, cleaned it back to bare metal, painted it
refurbed the back plates, poly bushes, stainless flexi brake hoses, new copper
brake pipes, new gm wheel cylinders, new handbrake cables and cable sliders.
afew stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers here and there.

so next was a couple of coats of etch prime, then lots of seam sealer,
a coat of rubber guard, then grey stone chip

so from this

http://i689.photobucket.com/albums/vv255/sturooke/novagsijan2011011.jpg?t=1299061792

I was going to colour code the floor, but after lots of thinking
i'm going to paint with black hamerite smooth.

the inner rear arches and back panel was allso cleaned and sorted
drivers side
