Hi my mate has a mk4 astra that has a standard factory fit alarm he can lock the doors but the alarm will go off randomly could be a few seconds or a few hours does anyone have an idea on what the problem may be
Thanks Anthony
Does it have a deadlock option? (Push the lock button twice) As its a similar prob to what i have on my work van.

It's the power sounder unit located behind the N/S front wheel arch lining.
It's a device that holds a charge so that it can still sound the alarm should someone break in and disconnect the battery.
Just like a rechargeable battery it looses it's ability to keep charge after time.
Just needs a new one from Vauxhall.

iirc the power sounder was about £60 when I had to replace it on the Coupe.
There's one on ebay at the moment:
Clicky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ASTRA-G-MK4-ALARM-POWER-SOUNDER_W0QQitemZ220371389273QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item220371389 273&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A2%7C 240%3A1318)
Obviously 2nd hand.
