View Full Version : Faded Badge/ Hub Caps
Have been keeping an eye out for a grill new badge for my Mk1 swing but nothings came up, The Silver griffin is badly faded the hub caps are also the same, Was thinking about getting the griffins painted silver to freshen them up a little.

Would be very tricky to mask off to spray paint so i was thinking of painting with a very fine model brush. Nick J advised me then to laquer the caps with a satin/mat laquer. Not sure about the grill.
Anyone any other ideas what i should do??
Cheers
I may have a badge.....

LMAO!!! Yes, rep added.
why not try that stuff for cleaning the oxidization off patio furniture
Would that bring up the silver ya think?
i was thinking more of if the plastic was cleaner & newer looking, the silver would also look sharper.
Ah rite, I should have mentioned that the plastic is faded but comes up ok when bumper gell is applied..
repaint the silver - to restore the hub caps usew SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER! I guarante you it will restore the plastic back to original!
Ill vouch for ade on that one bud as i watched him peanut buttering the vinyl trim on his SR late saturday afternoon at PV last year and it does work!
Well after breakfast i applied some peanut butter as advised to one of the caps.

One tip- prep the silver, then mask up around the griffin as far as you can go with tape. Then smear vaseline around the griffin on the dark grey, (don't get any on the silver) and spray away! Paint won't stick to the vaseline smeared surfaces, and you can just wipe the excess away leaving a new shiny griffin. You can do the same with the badge.
I'll be doing mine soon.

Excellent Tip mate!!! Your cheques in the post :D
you can actually buy latex masking fluid from art shops for a cuple of pound - just paint a little on with a brush on the small finer areas and it'll work a treat. need to thoroughly degrease it though.
Peanut butter wise - good job but really give it some elbox grease - you'll get a ton more dirt off I assure you!
