How we all doing?

Well I've had the wee sr now for a month or so and all that's been done is a hose replaced... The gear linkage is proving to be a right pain to sort but hopefully that should get sorted soon.

Excellent news is that the shell is solid, especially as she's 25 now. Few bits of surface rust on the arch and sills but nothing a rub down and paint won't sort.

I'm in two minds what to do, I was tempted to take it to Knockhill but there's always the risk of wrecking it but saying that she's not standard cause of the xe up front:D I want to get her to as near as standard looking bar the Allessios. I'm picking up a set in White at the weekend and these will be going on and so will the snowplough I picked up....

Some pics below, I'll post more of the bay, below and interior. Any thoughts are welcome....

Lovely car, not sure the speed lines suit though imo.

Did you see her when she was for sale and had the nice multi spoke white wheels? I think the white just sets her off. I'm sticking white allessios on her on Sat but she'll not be on the road for a few days. I'll stick the pics up.

I've always loved the allessio but maybe too modern for this old beast;)

vaughanmc

14" 3 spokes or original SR steelies FTW :)

Yeah i think they suited it better like you say. What were they? speedlines? perhaps a classic rfx or mo would suit?

DAFTJOHN
12-03-09, 10:40 PM
Not sure what they were - I'm sure the guy I bought the car off still has them? I'll see how I go with the White Allessios.

I like the look of the Mo's - don't know thw name of them but they have little cut outs round the edge and are mainly solid.

Wish I had bought this when it first came up for sale!

Looks good though, although not sure the whels look right on it. Mk2 astra gte wheels in white would be cool. And i'm with you on the 1.3 idea, you never see 1.3sr's anymore let alone original ones.

It's weird, the speedlines don't look that good in the pics but on the car in the real world they looks spot on against the yellow. The yellow doesn't come up as it is - probably cause it's my camera phone...

I'll keep them on for a bit and see if anything takes my fancy. Maybe TH's but think they're hard to source.

dj_wudgey
23-03-09, 12:48 PM

people who keep saying put sr/rims on its an xe so thinking its got the brakes they won't fit without moding the caliper.

people who keep saying put sr/rims on its an xe so thinking its got the brakes they won't fit without moding the caliper.

A wee nick off each caliper is all thats required!

I just think cause its rare jamaica yellow and even tho its got a redtop keeping it original on the outside would suit it better!

But granted real life properly looks alot better!! ;)

Yeah, it goes well - only been dry recently so been trying it out. Can get 85 in 3rd never noticed what it was in 4th maybe just over 100 and 5th it goes off the limit at 130. Maybe about 140 indicated. Pulls great from 70 to 100.

I'm wanting to take it to a track but bit worried I'll wreck it????

Okay, we update prior to the work over winter...

The car interior is getting stripped this Sat in prep for a paint over November.

The engine is coming out and the shell is getting stitched and having the strengthening kit added along with new blue pipes for the engine. New headlights, all new Vinyl, polly bushed, bumpers all treated to bring life back into them, wheels going either white again or Antheracite, new servo and master cylinder, all the underneath stripped re-sealed and painted as well as the outside and under arches painted. - all in all a good freshen up and see if there is any rust starting and catch it now.

Looking forward to it all ;)

Okay, we update prior to the work over winter...

The car interior is getting stripped this Sat in prep for a paint over November.

The engine is coming out and the shell is getting stitched and having the strengthening kit added along with new blue pipes for the engine. New headlights, all new Vinyl, polly bushed, bumpers all treated to bring life back into them, wheels going either white again or Antheracite, new servo and master cylinder, all the underneath stripped re-sealed and painted as well as the outside and under arches painted. - all in all a good freshen up and see if there is any rust starting and catch it now.

Looking forward to it all ;)

nice plans mate!! id like to see it go back to 1.3 me but each to there own!!

That's the nova dropped off at the painters. Found some rot on the floor under the crossmember where the seats bolt but apart from that was amazed at the very good condition of the rest of the floor. Should be ready in 3 or 4 weeks then I'll start on the detailing in the bay and engine :)

It was in wales - I bought it from a chap in edinbrough who inherited off his grandfather (he lived in bedford) who had it from new.
Car was sort of complete but a non runner when i got it.
Got it all sorted but needs must and unfortunately had to sell it to finish the championship year off (rallying).
Biggest mistake i made was selling it as it was so clean and an ORIGINAL sr1300.
The lad i sold it to did nothing with the car and sold it to his mate who put the XE in it.
Good luck with the rebuild.

mmmm I ain't spending 2k on paint and then another 1k on other parts to have it out in the salt - yeah I'll drive it hard when it's on the road but don't think I'll be able to stand watching it rot with all that crap from the road getting everywhere....I have my daily for that:d

Apparently last week the car should have been in Primer, this week the top coats applied and next week re-built and wheels painted. I've asked for it back 25th or 26th June - if it's not back by then it won't be going back on the road this year. Pity as the car went in early November and this was enough time to have it done. I'm working on the basis that the time taken means it will be a very good job and it's not rushed at the end - any runs will see me:mad:

2k for paint, that sounds reasonable. But if you take into consideration the rectification of previous repairs, oh yeah, and welding of the cross member and inner wings and did I mention the floors? Had to cut internal x member and plate above chassis legs on both sides then replace xmember to look as if it hadn't been touched. Speaking of welding, added a strengthening kit under the bonnet and on the rear axle mounts ( another small hole on inner arch at rear, but I won't mention that!!). Also stitch welded the seams under the bonnet too. Cut out and replaced rusty section on door bottom too.
Was asked to remove all vinyl and replace, which had been painted over. Remove and replace rear spoiler, if you know Novas, not easy.
This car drove in, granted with only one seat but still left window removal and interior trim.

Engine and front suspension had to be removed also to allow welding/painting of the engine bay. Did someone say engine????

Asked to replace gaskets on engine and service it too. And BTW throw in a heater matrix while I'm at it.

Wheels also have to be painted.

And I haven't even started on the general bodywork!!

So, in my opinion £2k is a bargain!!!

I don't do half a job on anything and when someone tells you there's no rush as they'd prefer a top notch job to a speedy one......

As all you enthusiast out there know, these things all take time and you never really know what you're going to get until you start.

If anyone has a problem with what I'm saying then feel free to speak to me direct rather than spew your guts on here.

I ain't spewing anything anywhere, just updating some of the guys on here with progress.

You might have taken what I posted in the wrong spirit - I know and appreciate the amount of work going into it, the costs shouldn't come into it - I brought costs up as I'm not wanting to see all the good work / costs be wasted over the winter with all the crap on the roads.

I'm keen to get the car back on the road - acknowledge it takes times and to be fair you've never commited to a date but we have tried to work towards a few which have slipped.

It's got to have the strengthening kit welded on the back end, the doors, tailgate and bonnet painted, engine in, then vinyl added - new boot spoiler and then it'll get mot'd and taken over to my garage to have the interior put back in. Should be end Feb / mid March:thumb:

It was painted previously but flaked off - it's getting new vinyl but I will be keeping an eye on it to ensure that there is no water sitting in there.

Cheers, I'll go find a nice silver. Painted the trim upol mid gray - seems a good match

Aye the upol mid grey seems to be a favorite with the mk1 owners (Does it stand up to petrol etc? or is it like acrylic paints and melt?) Just as most de-tarring products are petrol based, which may cause issues.

For the badge the "wheel silver" you get in most motor factors is a good match, is a nice uniform shade and not too metalic/sparkly.

Looking good john, the Upol mid grey really is a good shade for the bumpers and trim, I had to paint my bumper badge to match and used vxl star silver but left it Matt finish ie no clear coat and it looks spot on.

Will be good to see this built back up and on the road again buddy.

Have the car back. A lot of work to be done. Engine in, powder coat parts and wheels. Doors bonnet and boot to get painted. Doors and boot rebuilt up. Polly bush, flatten paint, register as 2ltr, tax mot and drive.

We both decided that it made sense for me to have it back. Just need to press on with it but busy with work. Not sure if I should get it on road this year.

I'm in two minds just now on what to do with all the drive train. To clean, renew, paint or powder coat! Don't have the space to work on it lol. The car takes up the space.
