Hi, I have just purchased a Kadett 1.3 8v engine for oval track racing, does anyone have any tips on tuning the engine or ready to hand parts? Plus I am trying to tune the engine on a budget so any useful tips would be greatly appreciated!:tard:
when you say a kadett, is it a mk1 or 2 astra shaped one, or the old rear wheel drive one?????

Well it's still a 1300 8V (or are there differences, always thought they were pretty much the same the 1300s)
My advice:
Twin 40s
Higher lift cam
Port/Polish
Exhaust manifold and system
usual stuff really.
However I'm sure you'll be restricted by rules on most of the above.

the rwd kadett has a bigger version of the 1.0 ohv engine, I was trying to make sure.
cant fit t40s there is a mani for a single 45 tho.
I'd assume its a 13S astra engine. What are you racing and what do the rules allow?

im guessing he's talking about the 1300s engine from a mk.1 astra, decent motors those. what carb did they come with i wonder, i used to have a 5 door model 1300s, went like stink, i was 15 tho and thrashing it illegally so it felt like sh1t off a shovel to me at the time.
The engine is more or less the same as the 1300 nova engine, but it had a Varajet II carb which gave 6BHP more book power.
Some of the Kadett engines 13N ran a single barrel carb and had less power.

whoah beasty, so it was prob churning out about 80 donkies, speedy gonzales
I think it was only the mk1 astra that had variajet,
I have a 13S from a mk2 astra/opel kadett and it has a pierburg 2e3. But it uses a different fuel return system to a Nova 1300. Astra has a wee black pot etc. Its like a maze of pipes lol.
be carefull, the mk1 astra got the ohv 1300 and the ohc 1300, 13s denotes ohv, and uses a weber carb.
No the MK1 astra got a 1200 OHV, the 1300's are all OHC.
its a 1275 actually, classed as a 1300.

i totally forgot about your question dave, yeh the oval track racing, you doing that competetively ? as they'll probably be rules and regulations on engine mods, if its just for fun tho, u can go mad with whatever u fancy thats in your budget. best bang for buck id say is pick yourself up a second hand 4 branch exhaust manifold (+ 4/5 bhp). next bang for buck.. hmm possibly a better gearbox with longer ratio's for more top end as you aint gonna be braking much on an oval circuit. next up if u can squeeze it outta ya wallet, a higher lift camshaft to flood the engine with fuel (maybe another + 4/5 bhp). dont forget about the weight reduction front, makes alotta difference, and some stiffer suspension will be a must for those high speed bends.

Sloth mines a 13S engine, came from astra mk2 estate, and its ohc dude. 'Book figures' claim 75 bhp, doubt it even has half that now though.
I also thought the mk1 Astra '1300S' was ohc, the one with variajet carb? So really its a 1256 ohv with the variajet then?

yeh my 5 door mk.1 was ohc. same 8v's the nova's run, it was too long ago to remember what carb it had on it tho, i remember it being twin choke but thats all i can mention.
